Yes, XP gain for panzer/cavalry leader is binary, you only grind 1 type at a time.
The actual effect of the trait, once you have it, is based on the ratio between mechanized and tanks.

Not sure this is up to date, my division template with 42% mechanized and 58% tanks is only gaining panzer leader exp

Just one question, when I looked for optimal combat width I found this post.

They claim offensive units should be 35/36 and that you should try to not hit 34 as much as possible.
I am not sure if this was asked before, but which one is the correct answer?
