TF2 Class Tips: The Spy

The hell is this, Critical?
This is a mini-spy guide. I'll give you some tips, and explain why you should/shouldn't do them.


Since you can read a simple sentence, here. Have a Sandvich.

Now for the actual Tips.
Do attempt to kill the Medic whenever possible.

It's amazing how much Medics help both your team and the enemy. They can save you from almost near-death experience, deploy ubers, overheal...

Hell, a good Medic and Heavy/Demoman can mow down an entire team.

This makes it a much bigger loss to the enemy team if you make the Medic go rage Pyro, or quit the server entirely.

A Spy doesn't have to get a lot of kills to be good.

What I mean by this is that you don't have to be some master of stealth and firepower to do your job correctly.

Out of all the people, Jerma985 actually made me realize this, in one of his videos, he said:
"There is a time limit on every map, so if you can take even a few second off that clock, by making the important classes looking around for you, being afraid of you, you did your job and your team will most likley win because of that."

Don't try to trickstab everything that moves.

Trickstabs are meant to be a last resort, worst case senario and only one way out. They are NOT meant to be your team's personal Stunt Show, whenever you can get out of a situation without any risks, by all means, do it.

I am not saying trickstabbing is a bad thing to do. In fact, I encourage learning them for later use, but please. If you see a Medic running at you with 10 Health, don't try to pull off some amazing trickstab. Just shoot them and let it be done with.

Grade yourself.

Lets say when you die by a Heavy spotting you, don't go ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and ragequit. Think to yourself: "Was there anything I could do to prevent that?" Yes, you could've cloaked and ran away, and if you were out of cloak, go into a building and hide. If there was no building...

You get the point, take some replays and watch them, see what you were doing right and wrong,

Remember the D.P.W

Disguise, Positioning, and Weapon. Here are some examples:

Wouldn't it be a bit suspicious for an scout to be in the middle of a firefight with his bat out?

Why is our soldier running towards our medic with his melee out?

When you disguise as an enemy, think about what would they be doing at the time, would they be spychecking inside the base? Trying to snipe the important targets? With the others trying to make a push?

If you are using the Dead Ringer, make your death as belivable as possible

Nobody will belive that the spy actually died from hitting them with a Fan-O-War.

The Dead Ringer is meant to be an escape tool, not an Invisibility Watch. If you're not sure how to make it more belivable, try firing your weapon against them before taking the DR out, actually take some damage before using it.

Watch some good spies on youtube, see what they do when they have the Dead Ringer.

DO NOT DISGUISE AS A SCOUT.

I know some people might disagree with me, because of X or Y, but overall, it's a bad idea. You'll never run as fast, almost any player will be able to find you out and kill you almost instantly. The only good use is to be a distraction to the enemy team.

Once I killed a spy with the fan-o-war. It was a real death, because he was cloaked when I hit him.
