By BLACK_DRAGON
With the release of RUNDOWN 6 BOTS have been added to the game as an accessibility feature

In this guide you will learn stats, quirks and other stuff about bots and how to use them to your advantage

THIS GUIDE WILL ASSUME YOU WILL BE PLAYING ON A 2 PLAYERS + 2 BOT SETUP SINCE THE BOTS ARE DESIGNED TO BE PLAYED LIKE THAT

COMMANDS
In general bots are pretty similar to human player but unlike players they will not do independent decisions and they'll mostly react to what you do and what you tell them to do

COMMANDS
You can give commands to your AI partner by pressing Q wich will bring the command menu

The only ones you actually need to pay attention its:
  • Deploying tool
  • The Objective
  • Teamwork
Deploying tools: Its pretty self explanatory, in this list you can deploy your bots equipped tools, another cool thing about this tab its that it allows you to use the CONSUMABLES your bots get a hold
Once you enter the list it works like just like player tools for sentries you look down on the floor and place them down and for mines you look at a door frames squares and place them, super simple.
Consumables you can order the bots to use
  • C-foam Granades
  • C-foam mines
  • Disposable mines
In the topic of consumables they do have priority "order" and at the top of the list are the lock melters, so depending on your perspective that can be either a positive or a negative

CFOAM LAUNCHER AND GRANADES ARE NOT RECOMMENDED SINCE THEY THROW/USE THEM FROM THEIR POSITION NOT BASED ON THE PLAYERS ONE.

Teamwork tab: Teamwork tab lets you command the bot if you want them to follow you, if you dont want any bots following you, your partner will have to call that bot in this tab.

The objective tab: The objective tab allows the bot to pick up/drop objective items such as

  • Neonates
  • Fog Turbines
  • Cryo Boxes
  • High Sex Cargo
  • Cargo Boxes
Do note that bot will drop down any objective items and refuse to pick them up if you enter combat so if the level have a ERROR//: alarm for the rest of the level they will not pick that item up until the level its done
WEAPONS AND TOOL'S
Since bots are basically walking sentries we wanna give them weapons that are "cheap" that have some decent range and ammo, you wanna avoid giving them specialize weapons like snipers, revolver/helgun because they're extremely prone to friendly fire and giving them CQC weapons like shotguns will waste ammo since bots don't have anything to check distance and will shoot sleepers at 50+meters

I personally suggest because they perform well

Main category:
  • Burst Rifle: Good range [20 meter falloff], Good damage [7 damage per burst], lot of ammo

  • Carabine: Overbuff to hell these past patches S tier on players alike
Special Category:
  • Machinegun Veruta: Excellent on them due to its high mag bullet count [60] decent damage [3.51] and great stagger thanks to its newest buff.

  • Machinegun Arbalist Heavy hitter [5.35] with lots of ammo really nice for charger level where bots usually underperform
I personally give 1 of each machine gun so i have covered both stagger and heavy damage if chargers are present and burst rifle incase the level im playing have long sidelines

Tools
Biotracker: Top tier, automated, can ping on a 360 degree all active enemies, only downside you will have to pay more attention while stealthing rooms but that will make you better at the game wink wink

Sentrygun: Witch type of sentrygun depends on your strat and what level your doing, giving bots sentries its a safe choice since you can tell them to fetch their sentries even if your far away, their easy to place and barely have any issues with geometry (placing sentries on top of object will not work for bots)

Mines: They work the same as sentries in the sense that they can pick up mines that they have place but depending on the envioroment (gardens, labs, etc) you can have some issues putting mines down due to geometry, its safer for you the player to carry it since you can deploy them faster than a bot. Bring it only on levels that are not so action pack that allow you to setup for alarms

C-foam: No, don't even bother, i'm not even gonna give you a reason, trust me on this one

On a 2 Player + 2 Bots setup i would give my 1 bot a sentry and the second one biotracker.

Combat wise bots are decent partner that you can rely on when shooting....... on the opposite side bots will try and "attempt" to save ammo, they will melee enemies if they get close during an alarm basically killing themselves on the process if a wave of enemies gang up on a bot
A way to alliviate this problem is killing whatever its around the bot until the bot detects that theres 10+ enemies around him ( ͡ʘ ͜ʖ ͡ʘ)
STEALTH
Stealth its a big aspect of this game and bots have some benefits to them that can help you.

  • Bots are literally incapable of waking up rooms, do noise (yes even shooting) or trigger enemiesso if a room wakes up it is definitely 100% your fault

  • Bots melee's are cosmetic regardless of what you give them they'll do 16 flat damage and will do crit damage if hitting a crit spot

  • To your disadvantage even tho they cannot trigger enemies they still respect "stealth mechanic" meaning they will stop moving when enemies glow

  • After a bot hits an enemy they will cancel the scream of an enemy even if the enemy does the full screaming animation after getting hit by the bot.
Stealth gameplay still pretty much the same as in with people for the most part (aside from them lagging behind a bit), only issue you will encounter its that sometimes due to faulty logic or distance they will start shooting enemies when your trying to kill enemies (specially giant enemies) best course of action you can take its just to not panic and attempt to kill whatever your trying to kill quick and fast

if you really want to make sure they melee giants, to increase your chances of them not shooting:
>get behind the giant
> wait for the bots to get as close as you and giant as possible
> start hammering
Miscellaneous info
Resource distribution
  • Bots can grab resources from boxes/lockers if a player its not within 5 meters of the boxes, they will prioritize medipacks over anything else

  • Bots will give medi/tool/ammo if your below 80% of any of those, ammo been the only one of the resources in witch both weapons need to be below 80%, so if you have 80% primary and 60% special the bot will not give you a hit of ammo even tho you technically meet the requirements.

  • Bots will give disinfect pack if your above 20% infection

  • To your disadvantage bots WILL attempt to give you resources during a fight regardless of how dire the situation your in is..........
Other miscellaneous
  • Bots are 100% inmune to infection
  • Bots will do scans but only within 10'ish meters of the players radius, if you move to far away from the bot to reach a small scan the bot will drop the scan he's doing and follow you instead.
  • If the player its far away from the bot (2+ rooms away) the bot will simply phase trough the walls, closed doors and directly path to the player
  • Bots can ping lockers, boxes, terminals and doors
  • Biotracker bot will approach a door and scan for enemies giving you a voice line informing you if the room its clear or not this might kill him on levels that you have to move quick
  • [Speculation] Depending on drama state or amount of enemies Bots will aimbot everything nearby
Minor strats and Cheese
STRATEGIES
When playing with bots you and your friend will do most of the heavy lifting 1 of you should specialize in giant/miniboss killing (depending on the level) and the other will be more generalize loadout, since giants and big waves are the thing that makes bots wipe out so killing the initial part of the wave and its special threats should be your priority when ensuring your bots survival

Bots tend to play behind you most of the time witch can be prone to friendly fire, most of the time having a "tactical retreat" will force the bots to use their weapons while pathing to you so you can avoid them going to melee sleepers and dying in the process.

Having biotracker bot following the host players its better than having it following the client since their AI pathing its gonna be smoother

MINIBOSSES
When dealing with a tank you wanna have the player with a sniper and from far away snipe the tank with the 2 bots with him, while the other player "attempts" to keep tank agroo on him so the sniper user can get free shots on him

When dealing with mom and its bigger variant you wanna attempt to kill all or as much babies as you can, thankfully bots can actually participate in this fight since once mom its done birthing she's harmless and the hitbox its generous to the bots and can actually shoot her (foaming helps)

Inmortal.......... They didnt program the bots to have any interactions nor anything with this enemy so bots will straight up just stare at him and do nothing, no dodging no fighting, also due to its bioping resistance biotracker bot will lag behind attempting to ping this enemy but failing since the ping goes away every 0.3 second

These bots are nowhere near capable of dealing with minibosses like tank and inmortal they just sit there and get hit until they die making mom the only viable boss the bots can actually do something against..................... pls fix

So level's like R7E1 you will basically have to cheese the bots

Cheese: You can remove and rea-dd bots on the menu screen even if their dead on the floor, re-adding the bot back will spawn the bot back alive with 0% health but will regen back to 20% allowing you to get revives
Modded
I highly recommend "Better bots" mod from r2modman since its vastly improves their combat logic and adds a neat feature like (If its updated or not broken due to newest patch release)
  • Bots actually carry items during combat
  • Bots will kill sleepers before reviving you instead of instantly going for the revive
  • Bots will drop carry items to defend themselves
Conclusion
So in conclusion bots are serviceable teammates, you just gotta play around their quirks and weaknesses as far as my experience comes you can complete 99% of the game's content with 2 players and 2 bots except for 1 or 2 levels but that's due to the developer oversight.

I hope you enjoy this guide and learn something useful and if you did you can share it with other prisioners in the complex

Most of this info its pulled from my reddit post a year ago

There's one trick you could add that not many players know of. If you're in a room that has a pickupable (like cell, cryo, fog turbine and so on) and you don't know where it is in the room you're currently in (if it is in that room at all), you can get a bot to enter the room with you and do q->teamwork->pickup objective item. The bot will insta find it and pick it up and walk back to you with it.

Better bots mod doesnt affect ingame rewards nor completions since its an actual qol feature for the game and not cheats (like keeping boosters and such)

Actually very useful, just one question. Do mods affect in game rewards or completion of missions? (If i use mods can i still get rewards and play with friends?) :celeste_bird:
