-There are two sides : Red and Black. Each player controls one of the colour.
- 2 players take turns to play the game
- In one turn, only 1 chess can be moved. The turn ends after the chess is moved. No matter it captures opponent's chess or not
- The goal is to capture (eat/kill) the 將/帥 of the opponent, you may also takedown other enemy chess in the process.
- 將 and 帥 are not allowed to see each other (in straignt line without other chess obstructing). Otherwise, the current turn player can fly his/her 將/帥 to the oppontent's 將/帥 and the player wins the game instantly.
- if you have one more move before capturing the opponent's general (將/帥), you have to notice your opponent.
- Captured units are removed from the table
- You are not allowed to Team Kill so you can not move your chess to the location where a friendly chess is stationed
- You may capture opponent's chess if your chess is able to move to its location (See Moving Rules below). Then, your chess stops at your opponent chess's original position.
-Moving Rules for each chess
- 將/帥 move in straight only in palace (the square area in bottom-middle and top-middle with a cross), and only move one space at a time. They are not allowed to leave the palace.
-士/仕 move in slope only in palace, and only move one space at a time. They are not allowed to leave the palace.
-兵/卒move forwad only but it can also move left or right after they cross the river. They can only move 1 space at a time
-車 move any distance orthogonally , but may not jump over intervening pieces.
-炮 move any distance orthogonally (if nothing is blocking their way) , but can only capture by jumping a single piece, friend or foe, along the path of attack.
-馬 move in the shape of 日. If a chess is located right in front of 馬, it can not move in that direction.
-象/相 move in the shape of 田. If a chess is located right in the middle of 田, it can not move in that direction. Since elephants can not swim, they can not cross the river.
