Introduction
Terraria already looks good, but can it look better? This guide will prove that you can make Terraria look more fabulous!

Note: these mods are for the tModLoader 1.4 alpha, so make sure that you are using the correct version.
#1: Lights and Shadow
Link

Lights and shadow is basically Minecraft shaders in Terraria. It provides two key features: sun rays and bloom. Personally, I find the bloom to be perfect and the sun rays provide an atmosphere to the game. Found below is the settings that I use with this mod.

#2: Staggo's Good Visuals
Link

*insert shameless self-promotion here* This is a mod that makes your character's movements more fluid. It's not just you that's affected, it's also some of the NPCs! Staggo's Good Visuals also includes a smooth camera that can be moved with your mouse. The main purpose of this mod was to replicate how the player in Terraria Overhaul looked and how the camera controlled. Speaking of player animations...

Edit: After the creation of this guide, this mod now includes:
  • Camera vibration from explosions
#3: Head rotates to cursor
Link

This mod does exactly what it says on the tin: your head looks at your cursor. However, there are additional features that make this mod better, one of which being that the way a player's arms are rendered while shooting a gun have been improved. Head rotates to cursor does not properly work in multiplayer; only arm animation improvements are visible to other players.

Edit: After the creation of this guide, this mod now includes:
  • Weapon holding animations
#4: Dynamic Lights
Link

Do you want to fry up your computer? Use this mod! I would not recommend using this mod for just playing the game as it lags very hard. The reason why this mod is very laggy is because it makes lights look more realistic by casting shadows. On the lowest settings, my Terraria base runs at 40 fps on my GTX 1650, and I usually get a constant 60 fps all the time! Another issue I have with this mod is that platforms glow for some reason and metal bricks don't shine nicely. If Dynamic Lights gets optimised, I'll use it in everyday Terraria!
#5: Marley's Terraria Resprite
Link

Away from the mod realm now, Marley's Terraria Resprite freshens up some of the textures in Terraria to add in more detail and depth. Paintings with this resource pack look much better, especially that blurry painting of the Brain of Cthulhu. It even makes some bosses move more fluidly! This resource pack has been used in all of the screenshots I have taken in this guide.
#6: Overhaul Music
Link

This is more of auditory upgrade rather than a visual one. Overhaul Music is an official resource pack from Kirbyrocket that brings Terraria Overhaul's music over to Journey's End! However, the texture upgrades are not included, some 1.4 remixes aren't added in and some haven't even been finished yet! I've modified this resource pack to include some of the missing remixes, but they should be added in eventually.
Final Remarks
After all these upgrades (excluding Dynamic Lights if you play Terraria on a potato), the game should look very fabulous, as well as being accompanied by some sweet music remixes! These visual upgrade mods can be seen as a replacement for Terraria Overhaul for those who only play it for the improved graphics and music, or you can just wait a while for Overhaul to come to the workshop.
