Foreword
This is not a 100% foolproof way to increase your FPS - rather some suggestions that have shown to help some users within the community combined with my own knowledge of how to optimize games, with a blend of some useful info from the internet.

I suggest checking the recommended hardware on the official Steam Page before you do any of these steps. If you're way below the "recommended" hardware - this will most likely not have a large impact.

DO NOT edit the configuration files of the game or use any third-party software that forces "potato" graphics like Nvidia Inspector. This violates the TOS and could get you banned.

My hardware -
1080ti 11gb OC'd to 2kMhz.
Intel 9900k, OC'd to 4.5.
16gb of DDR4 ram.
Game running on an SSD.
In-game Overview
These are my own settings. You can copy my settings if you have similar hardware. I get ~144fps on Varm and ~120-90 on ONY.

note: current settings or menu may change as time goes on.

Settings that should be changed no matter what your hardware is -
  • Resolution. Keep this to your default native resolution. If you want to downscale it, use the "Resolution Scale" setting and lower it until you hit your target FPS.
  • Max FPS - Off.
  • VSYNC - Off.
  • Combat companion PIP - While aiming or off. Having a PIP view of your drone has a major performance impact.
In-game Extended
Depending on your hardware, some settings may actually give you more frames if you turn them up. Weird, right?

This section is essentially troubleshooting.

View Distance
I can't give a solid answer for what this is most reliant on (cpu or gpu) - because I don't know how the game handles LOD, however I can notice a slight change in performance with it on low. Experiment and see what works best for you - a good place to do so would be on ONY.

Hierarchical LOD
Essentially, this setting is supposed to increase performance. I have mine set to off, but test it out for yourself.

Shadows
Keep this to low. Less shadows there are, the more visible things are - especially in dark environments, and it gives you more performance most of the time. If you notice worse performance on low, increase it until your frames are increased or stability is increased.

Textures
Increase or decrease and see what works best, typically lower settings tend to give more frames. If your GPU is being 100% utilized - it may actually be more beneficial to increase this setting. Tested by a few people in the community and increasing this setting gave more of a positive performance impact than the lower settings.

Anti-Aliasing
Off for the best performance. TAA has the most impact on your performance. FXAA reduces jagged edges but personally, looks horrid.

Foliage
Low.

All of the other settings under "Effects" are personal preference. I haven't noticed any significant impact on performance with them on or off, but this may vary from person to person. Ideally, you want it all off or low to have the most advantage.
Nvidia/AMD Control panel optimization
There's settings you can change via Nvidia control panel and AMD's control panel that can help with performance. Links to guides below.

Intelligent Standby List Cleaner
A lot of you have probably heard of this if you've played Warzone. ISLC helps a lot with stability, if you really want to squeeze in extra frames - give it a shot.

Keep in mind, this does not affect the game at all - nor does it inject into the game.

Good Habits
  • Don't use any overlays, like Discord's overlay. It can hurt your performance.
  • Clear out your drives. I recommend Wise Disk Cleaner or CCleaner.
  • Update windows often.
  • Maintain your PC. Clean out dust, replace thermal paste e.t.c.
