No, you get new prayers with Lily's quests and the upgrade with your Hammer is decorative only.
I'll check back for the monsters. I'm pretty sure I saw them drop several of the same item (you see how many by looking at the right of the screen when the item appears) but I'm not completely sure for the new version of the game so I'll check again.
The purpose of the Alter is prayer. I think adding each stage allows one more prayer, to a total of 3. However I cannot tell from my playthrough because I had already upgraded the alter by the time I was taught the prayers.
Your 'advice' is very useful and I got those problems as I played the game. In the section where you recommend planting berry bushes I would add pine trees. The wood and the seeds are useful throughout the game.
However, I looked in the Steam Achievements and there doesn't appear to be one for a 100% completion. I have now completed all the quests and I don't have it, and it doesn't show in the list. The 'reward' I got after finishing the last quest was the ability to build a stone model (from Mara), and I'm not sure whether that was tied to the last Brram quest, or to the fact that I finished the last quest of all.
