Introduction to Barbara
Barbara uses blunt weapons (D+). She also has a blade stat (E+) but it is rarely worth it to build blade weapons on her unless you come across pretty much all the components immediately. Her fairly high health and stamina make her a pretty sturdy character that scales into the late game.
Abilities
Barbara has the ability to rearrange guns into turrets that fly to a specified adjacent map using her field skill, Turret Drone. The rearranged drone deals damage equal to the gun's attack, meaning the stronger the gun, the more damage you'll deal. But the damage isn't what Turret Drone is really useful for.

What sets Barbara apart from other characters is her Body Modification passive. When a Turret Drone hits an enemy, Barbara gains Atk and Armor based on the consumed gun's rarity (Atk/Armor +1/3/6/11/15). The better the gun, the more Barbara benefits from using it. For this reason, never leave a purple or yellow gun on a corpse! Always grab it and use it as soon as possible.

Barbara has no combat skill, so mash attack during fights to your heart's content.
Builds
The only Aptitude you should be using is Scout. Scout allows you to see on the map the locations of any adjacent players or animals. This allows you to land drones with near perfect accuracy. When Scout is down, either wait for it to come up again before using a drone or keep an eye out for noise-- you could get lucky and hit multiple targets at once if you're quick.

You may decide to branch out and take Accelerate, Bread Seeking or even Counter Attack-- it's all personal preference. But I feel Scout is too strong on Barbara to pass up.

Barbara is pretty flexible when it comes to research result. I tend to use the following:

Biomechanics: Bioelectricity Adjustments, Lower-Body Circulation Stimulation, Combat Breathing.

It's always helpful to have more stamina, particularly on characters like Barbara who need precious inventory slots to hold guns and gun crafting items as well as their food, and thus do not have space for stamina recovery items.

Environmental Variable: EV-Type 1 CU, EV-Type 3 SCR, Ground-Penetrating Pulse.

Taking purple cell lets you get ahead on armor and help you trade with ease early on. If you're lucky and get a bishop's cassock, you can use steel and a cloth armor to make crusader's armor extremely fast. Bishop's cassock is also great for crafting Tiara of Light, if you so choose.

Ground-Penetrating pulse helps you find more items in the forest, trail, tunnel and cemetary, three of which are places to find iron ore. When combined with the free scrap metal from EV-Type 3 SCR, you'll have an inventory loaded with steel in no time.

Green cell (healing cell) can be useful, particularly if you want the tankiness without the fear of losing too much stamina, but I think purple is better on Barbara overall.

You can also take red cell (ultra vibration) if you value the damage, but I tend to avoid it because you'll scale up your damage with Body Modification anyway.

Avoid pink cell altogether.

Crafting
Use Steel
Barbara's stacking makes her a lethal threat in the final few rounds. However, the tradeoff comes from having a fairly weak early game and her reliance on crafting many, MANY weapons. Try to focus on stacking as early and as often as you can, but don't let mastery fall behind either.

Your ace in the hole is Steel (scrap metal + iron ore). Build it. A lot of it. And keep it in your pocket. In the same way Lennox always has use for whetstones, Barbara always has use for steel. You can use some of it for equipment (Crusader Armor, Plasma Tonfa, EOD boots), but the most important use is for these two green guns: V-PP and F92S.

V-PP and F92S can be found in the same map as each other (Docks or Chapel) and become C5 and SAM57 respectively with just one steel each. These are your bread and butter as a Barbara player. If you keep steel on you, each C5 or SAM57 will add five whole stacks to your passive.

Don't Craft Elegance
When you have C5 and SAM57 in your inventory, you may be tempted to craft Elegance. It's a stronger weapon, so it gives more stacks. But whatever you do, don't combine the guns-- use them separately! Consider the math:

C5 (blue weapon, 5 stacks) + SAM57 (blue weapon, 5 stacks) = 10 stacks
Elegance (purple weapon) = 7 Stacks.

When you combine the guns into Elegance, you miss out on 3 Body Modification stacks. It does take more effort to land two guns than one, but it is worth it every time.

Other Good Gun Options
More quick and easy ways to rack up stacks are with Double Revolver SP, AKR98, and Harpoon Gun.

Double Revolver SP can be made with Northern Revolver and Southern Revolver-- you can find both of these at the same places you can find V-PP and F92S, the chapel and docks. Combine the two revolvers for an easy blue weapon to chuck at the nearest unsuspecting Hyunwoo.

Harpoon Gun is an excellent choice and is worth building your route around making stops at the Forest for. All you need for this blue weapon is a Long Rifle (Dock, Beach) and a Harpoon (Forest). Harpoon Gun packs a whopping 50 damage!

Instead of using a Harpoon, you can use that Long Rifle with a Scrap Metal to make another blue weapon: AKR98-- Though I would avoid it if you can help it since Scrap Metal is a lot more useful elsewhere.

Armor and Weapons

Barbara can get away with using her Crude Bat for a significantly longer time than other characters can. In fact, I find keeping it on encourages people to trade with you, and this always works in your favor if you can handle it, because you're building stacks that buff your late game, but the opponent typically is not.

Barbara prefers simpler build paths for weapon that don't eat up precious inventory slots and allow you to focus on armor and guns. I won't go into routes here but some good weapon options for Barbara are:
  • Plasma Tonfa
  • Banana Leaf Fan
  • Double Nunchaku
  • Glepnir (doesn't make great use of your favorite areas on the map but it's strong and solid)

Good armor includes, as I have mentioned earlier, items that contain steel. As a general rule, you want to be stacking as much as possible-- some games I find I haven't even built an accessory or finished my arm piece but am dominating the opposition because I've stacked so much. When building equipment, remember to prioritize your body armor FIRST. This is a general rule for success on any character.
General Tips
Here is a list of misc. tips that don't fit into any other category.

  • If you're desperate, you can drone strike the location you're currently standing in. But be warned: THIS WILL HURT YOU, and you cannot stack off yourself. This is really only useful when most areas are restricted and you still want to build stacks.
  • Having early food is a must. Easy options for the beginning of the game are pan fried ramen, choco pies/boxes, liquor bread and mocha bread.
  • Prioritize scrambled egg in your supply drops. It gives the most bang for your buck as far as healing goes when you can't be bothered to craft foods.

Good luck!
Now go out there and show these idiots who's boss.
