Rebinding Controls for ITD
By Icewind Dale Wilson
So you've bought Into the Dark, but the default control scheme doesn't work for you?
Well as it turns out, there's no Options menu of any sort, so rebinding your controls (and altering other settings) takes a bit of tech-savvyness (if that's even a word)!

There's already a sticky about this on the forums, but it's not particularly detailed, and since there's no guides yet for this game I figured why not make myself useful?

Let's get to it then!

Requirements
Ok, so before we get started, these are what you'll need to edit the controls:

1. An IQ of 80 or above (preferably at least 100)
2. Fingers
3. A file browser (Explorer if you're a ceshul, TotalCommander otherwise)
4. Notepad

All set?
Then away we go!
The Setting File
Before you get started editing your bindings, you first have to locate the settings file.

The file in question is called setup.ini and will (by default) be located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Into the Dark\into-the-dark

Open the file using Notepad and scroll down to [GAMEPROFILE].
That's where your key bindings are.
The Layout
First of all, take a look at this image:

This is what you'll need to refer to when you're rebinding your controls, as they're all listed by their numerical codes in the settings file, and not by their actual names.

With this in mind, here is what the default keys are, and what they're refered to in the settings:

Key1/Taunt1 - Up - W (17)
Key2/Taunt2 - Down - S (31)
Key3/Taunt3 - Left - A (30)
Key4/Taunt4 - Right - D (32)
Key5/Taunt5 - Jump - Space (57)
Key6/Taunt6 - Crouch - C (46)
Key7/Taunt7 - Use - Enter (28)
Key8/Taunt8 - Reload - R (19)
Key9/Taunt9 - Lean Left - Q (16)
Key10/Taunt10 - Lean Right - E (18)
Key11/Taunt11 - Sprint - Left Shift (42)
Unlisted - Weapon Mode (ex. Silencer) - F (33)
Editing the Controls
So now that you have a general understanding of what's what, you can rebind your controls any way you please!

Except for F, since it appears to be hard bound to Weapon Mode, which is a bummer really since F would normally be Use. Let's hope that get's changed soon.

For example if you, say, wanted to switch from WSAD to the directional keys, you'd change the lines to this:

key1=200
key2=208
key3=203
key4=205
taunt1=200
taunt2=208
taunt3=203
taunt4=205

Simple as that. Not too bad, right?
Armed with the image posted above you can now easily change your key bindings!

Additionally, if you want to edit your mouse sensitivity, go to the top of the file under [GAMERUN] and edit the line mousesensitivity= to whatever you wish.
Conclusion
That's it, you're done and can now enjoy the game with your very own super cool, custom control scheme!

It's not the simplest way to handle settings, but hell at least it's there.
Hopefully, however, the developers might some day get a proper Options menu in place (or if not, at least allow us to rebind Weapon Mode).

Just don't ask me how to rebind the mouse buttons... I have no idea.
Version History
In case I ever need to edit something, might as well have this here.

okay, I am really nitpicking but as I use "F" to strife right, is there any way I can use that key to "strife right" as well here? I understand that you all are doing hard work and as I have tried programming before, I understand just how hard it is but I truly do not wish to relearn 10+ years of how I use my controls if at all possible.

Thanks

Oh, him.
Don't mind him, he's just a friend being supportive in his... own special way.

no, your guide is fine, I just am a little bit curious why someone who doesnt own the Steam Edition finds it helpful ;)
