Barter Prices
By Renka
Bartering in Pathologic can often be the reason why your inventory is filled with random sh---- stuff. Sometimes, you'll carry stuff that has very low item value or you'll have to chose between one or another because of no inventory space left, and you keep thinking; "Did I do the right choice?" so here I am making this guide so you regret a (most likely) insignificant action from hours ago.

1. Basics
Bartering is one, if not the most important mechanic in the entirety of Pathologic. You can trade almost every item for something else. But just like real life, every item has their own value. Some people value for example a cog way more than others, meaning not only that you can sell for higher prices, but also buy things cheaper if you know who to talk to.

Keep in mind this guide ONLY has barter prices, meaning it won't include prices in coin. As of now, you can't get every item by just bartering, but it is true you can get the most important ones with it.

Because I will be referring to the different NPCs as their given wiki name, which the usual player is not really used to, I'll add some tags next to the name. For example, instead of saying just "Siskin" I'll type "[T]Siskin" followed by the sell/buy price they have for that specific item, in their respective Category. I recommend scrolling down below to the tables to see what I mean.

Here is a list of all the tags I'll use
  • [M] ~ (Adult) Males
  • [W] ~ (Adult) Women
  • [T] ~ Teenagers
  • [K] ~ Kids
  • [IN] ~ Infected (both women and males are within the same category)
  • [S] ~ Special (Dead Item Shop, Catnip, Dandy, etc)

It is also good to note that if you have low reputation in a district, you won't be able to trade there. Unless you attempt to try and trade with infected folks, that is.
2. Items
Pathologic 2 has a stupid ammount of items. Thankfully, not every item can be barterable (?), for which I am very thankful. I decided to use the exact same categories as the wiki uses for easier navigation.

3. Townsfolk
Pathologic's town is divided into various districts where you'll oftenly see people wandering in the streets that you can trade with. Alternatively, you can also knock on the doors and ask to enter their house where you will be able to trade with them -- or loot their houses.. if you are into that.

Catnip is located in The Soul-and-a-Half Fortress. Notably she is the non-infected NPC that sells fingernails the cheapest. She will also begin to offer Army Cloaks on Day 9.Her model resembles a variant of the Chickadee NPC.

*I don't recommend trading the Leash to Dandy since at the start of act 3 (Starting on Day 4), you can trade it to Maera, a Doghead in the Nutshell and get a shmowder for it.

He is located in the The Soul-and-a-Half Fortress.
His model resembles a variant of the Finch NPC.

He will also sell the Haruspex maps indicating which districts got infected.

Depending on the day, Dandy's values for Needles, Revolver Ammo, and Rifle Ammo will fluctuate.
On Day 5, Dandy will begin to offer Shotgun Ammo and cease to offer Immunity Boosters. He will also begin to accept Immunity Boosters.
On Day 9, Dandy will begin to offer Rifle Ammo.

After receiving the first infection map, Dandy will be located at the right side of the The Soul-and-a-Half Fortress, sitting on a crate.

If the game dice decides to infect Notkin with the plague and he dies, Dandy will be located in Notkin's spot for the rest of the game.

Gnarl is the owner of the Dead Item Shop. He is also known as the "Fellow Traveler".
During the early morning of Day 6, the Fellow Traveler will only be offering Inquisitorial Coupons (called "Candy Wrappers" at the time) for 125 monies. Trades made with him on that night are done via cash exchange, rather than the usual barter system, and he will have 2500 monies in his purse. He will also buy Infected Livers and Infected Kidneys, which he does not usually trade for (However he will not accept Infected Blood). This is the one opportunity in the game for the player to sell infected organs for money. Otherwise none of his other buying prices are remarkable.

A map with his locations for each respective day is located here (I love you Pathologic Wiki)

*weapon values are based off 100% durability. Similarly to selling in shops, the value of these items decrease as their durability decreases.

Militia are found wandering around the districts and will attack the player if their reputation is at the lowest ("You're Hated Here"). They will also be stationed at the entrances to infected districts and can be found in houses in burned districts. They are variants of the Crow, Nightjar, Ouzel, and Pigeon NPCs wearing guard caps.

Army Soldiers and Flamethrowers replace Militia once the Army arrives, although Militia can still be found in houses in burned districts.
