dm_coolant

dm_coolant is a brand new deathmatch map created and designed by the maker of Half-Life 2: Cosmonaut and co-creator of bm_stalwartXT, Dolmo. The map is set in the Black Mesa Lambda Reactor Complex and contains environments that are similar to those seen in the “Unforeseen Consequences” and “Lambda Core” chapters.

The map was designed for solo deathmatch mode in which each player is fighting for themselves. Most of the action occurs in a main central hub which contains a variety of powerful weapons. Upon a central suspended platform is a gluon gun and an RPG which both spawn every two minutes to create a sense of competition and achievement for those players who are skilful (or lucky) enough to get them.

• Lots of weapons (including two tau cannons that can be used to jump across the map and reach the main platform faster)
  
• A moving platform similar to the one seen in the “power struggle” chapter of Blue Shift
  
• Two “Xen Bounce Pads” which are the primary method of getting to the platform with the good weapons on it
  
• Highly detailed environments similar to those seen in Black Mesa
  
• Electrified pool of death!

Whilst the map was initially designed to be small, allowing for a small player count, the finished level allows for up to 16 players! It has been recommended that the minimum number of players be four but it is possible that a smaller number of people could enjoy playing it. The idea for dm_coolant was initially conceived in 2019 but it wasn’t until June of 2020 that development could begin. In January of 2021, the project was put on hold due to external factors but then development recommenced later in 2021.
