It's all about money (and sheep)
There's a lot to do in the game, and it's tempting to dive into all the weird sidequests in the game. But to make your life easier, there's something you should do first.

Naomi need money, for fast travel, food, and healing. So how do you get money for your daily bread?

Simple. After you finish the prologue, do Route A first, as suggested by the game!

A lot of people (like me) got distracted and do random things after prologue. But the game doesn't suggest you to do Route A for nothing.

By doing Route A, you will get the ability to ride sheep, to travel everywhere faster. You can catch sheep to shear them for wool regularly, for either selling them or using them as crafting material. And most importantly, you can access sheep race from Douglas McEvoy, where you can get money daily.

Another thing you can do for money is mining, but for obvious reason, it will be easier to do once you get sheep to travel to the mine faster, and regular money to fast travel to the mines using shrines.

What about photography you say? Isn't Naomi technically a photographer? That too! The money you get from Flamingo depends on your number of follower. When you're starting, your photos will only get you a small amount of money. Upload photos of things related to the main quest (for example, the photo you take at the end of the prologue) to get you a lot of followers quickly. Once you get tons of followers, the photos you upload will start to get you non-negligible amount of money (though maybe still not that much compared to sheep race and mining). Don't forget that only the first picture of the buzzwords will get you a lot of emokes, if you take pictures of the same buzzwords over and over, the next pictures will get you less emokes.

Have a good Good Life!
Addendum: Peeing.
There is actually a useful ability you get from other main quest routes that you might miss if you focus just on doing route A first: peeing. In the first quest of Route B, Horatio will teach you how to mark territory as a dog. Now you can recognize spots you can mark as a dog.

Digging spots will now spawn on territories you marked if the territory is in diggable ground, which then will respawn every so often as long as you keep your territory marked. These will give you valuable items and ingredients.

So it's recommended that you do the very beginning of route B as well.

After you do the prologue, you're given choice to do three route of the main quest. Route A is investigating Burley's Farm (you'll get the ability to ride sheep and do daily sheep race at the end, which is the important point), Route B is investigating glowing footprint, Route C is checking the registry in the Town Hall.

What is route A?

There aren't actually any "branches". There's three main story quest you each have to finish to progress in the main story, and there's two "endings" but the choice is at the very end of the main story. There are some quests that you can lock yourself out because story reasons (say, the npc got inaccessible), but you can do your locked quests at the post game, so no need to worry too much about missing quests.

And how many plot branches are there in The Good Life?

Thanks for the tips. I was purposefully not putting too many more specific stuff because originally the reason why this was made was because I saw a lot of people complaining about how hard is it to make money and how slow travelling is in this game, and I noticed that's because they haven't done Route A.

Another tip: hunting animals in cat form restores 10 hunger per animal, which helps keep food costs down.

Thank you. I thought when I first got the ability from Horatio they don't spawn digging spots, but I must've misremembered because most of the marking spots you get from Horatio in town are not in diggable fields, so they don't spawn digging spots.

You don't actually have to do the witch quest to unlock digging. You can do it after you get marking, it's just not explained so easy to miss. I'm sure about that because I still haven't done the witch quest.

I think it would be optimal to do enough of Route B to unlock marking/digging, and then go on to Route A so you can start finding valuables.
