Here's a little secret I found while playing through the first section of the game before unlocking the new game option.

While going through the map, you may encounter campfires which either increase a creatures attack or health, with the risk of them being "eaten" by the survivors around the fire.
The fun thing is that if you happen to feed them the Adder card, it kills all of the survivors, and then for the rest of that run, the camp fires are abandoned. Allowing you to take full advantage of the benefits of the fire, with no risk of losing your cards!

This can lead to some amazing runs with broken cards like Mantis God getting 9 attack, or Mole Man getting 14 health in addition to whatever sigils you apply to them during the run.

Granted, this is still RNG based, so you may accidentally end up powering up your Adder only to find that nothing bad happened to it, and you ended up "wasting" a camp fire, but just try again on the next one and it will happen eventually

System_Reb00t, it can happen if you enchance creature more than 1 times. It also works on other touch of death creatures and ring worm

wait they actually eat them? I've never had that happen throughout my playthrough.

This also applies for other "touch of death" creatures such as long elk and ringworm. If you are playing Kaycee's mod and aren't strict on rules, you can test the fire with one of these creatures. If you exit the game right when you see that the second fire doesn't kill the creature, you can go back and the RNG is the same.

Worked for me when the survivors at the ring worm, but not when they ate the adder

Eventually you'll be able to prompted if you want to push your luck and boost its stats more. sometime's they'll eat the creature if you leave it on the fire too long

How do they eat the animal, My character always picked up the creature and runs away after the first time. granted I have only done the campfires in a total of 5 different runs. 3 first time playing 2 (no tutorial) second time playing. (I honestly had a horrible deck good items that allowed me to beat game on 3rd run and get to 2nd act, played again skipping tutorial to get the achievements for that act)
