Leveling Tips
  • Whenever you log off from New World, make sure you’re in a settlement: you’ll get a rested XP bonus when you come back.
  • Pick up side-quests to complete alongside the main quest. You can finish these along the way.
  • Hit a monster if another player is fighting it once to gain XP and weapon mastery. Other players still get XP and weapon mastery for defeating them, so you aren’t griefing them.
  • You can accept up to 12 town missions at a time. This will give you plenty of XP, coins, and settlement reputation.
  • You get bonus XP from faction quests if there are any Daily Bonuses available in the faction board (shown at the top of the screen when talking to your faction’s representative).
  • Finding fast travel shrines will help you warp to different regions quickly. Also, consider owning a home in a separate town from the inn that you’ve signed up for to have more options for fast travel.
  • If you’re leveling up trade skills, you also get a nominal amount of general XP.
  • New World weapons level up separately to your character level, and PVP fights are the best place to get experience quickly and learn new skills.
  • Every day, the first three faction missions you complete reward double XP. Maximize the effect of this bonus by completing quests that reward the most base XP first.
  • Raise your standing in each territory by killing mobs, gathering materials, and completing quests. As you rank your standing up, you'll have chances to improve how much XP you gain in that area.
  • Try and take quests that require you to go to the same area or areas that are near each other. This will allow you to complete several quests at the same time, reducing the amount of time you have to spend traveling.
Leveling Rewards
You also unlock new modes, quests, and even item slots whenever you reach a particular level. Here are all of the New World leveling rewards:

  • Level 5: second weapon slot and survivalist quest (camp tier upgrade)
  • Level 10: Duels and first bag slot
  • Level 15: first house, third consumable slot, and survivalist quest (camp tier upgrade)
  • Level 20: ring slot and main story quest (Azoth Staff tier one)
  • Level 25: fourth consumable slot and survivalist quest (camp tier upgrade)
  • Level 30: second bag slot and main story quest (Azoth Staff tier two)
  • Level 35: second house
  • Level 40: earring slot, survivalist quest (camp tier upgrade), and main story quest (Azoth Staff tier three)
  • Level 45: third bag slot
  • Level 50: Invasions
  • Level 55: third house and survivalist quest (camp tier upgrade)
  • Level 60: Outpost Rush

TERRITORIES

You can also get an indication of which areas you can safely travel to by looking at the leveling rewards screen:

  • Level 5+: Firstlight, Everfall, Monarch’s Bluffs, and Windsward
  • Level 25+: Brightwood and Cutlass Keys
  • Level 30+: Weaver’s Fen
  • Level 40+: Restless Shore and Great Cleave
  • Level 45+: Mourningdale
  • Level 50+: Edengrove and Ebonscale
  • Level 60+: Reekwater and Shattered Mountain
Quests
New World Main and Side Story Quests

In New World, Main Story Quests are where the majority of your XP comes from and it’s definitely how you should begin to level up as a new player. However, purely completing them isn’t enough to productively boost your level. You’ll eventually hit a wall where the quest’s corresponding level recommendation is going to be higher than your own, say 3-4 levels greater.

This is a good indicator to switch to Side Quests so you can catch up. It goes without saying how risky the journey is to travel to a location containing monsters whose levels are substantially bigger than yours. Not only that but also, it’ll take a longer time to kill them, making the overall experience tough and unrewarding.

This brings us to Side Quests, which can be in the form of Side Stories, Faction Missions, and Town Projects. Side Stories are those you encounter in Settlements that are represented by yellow diamonds on your Map. They do provide a decent amount of XP but not when compared to Faction Missions and Town Projects. One thing to note about Main and Side Story Quests is the Azoth you receive upon completion. Azoth is used for fast traveling back to the different parts of a chosen territory whether it’s a settlement or another fast travel location.

This saves you a lot of time when you’re about to turn in your quests rather than running back. Since there are limited ways to hasten your speed and there are no mounts in New World, fast traveling becomes highly essential to maximize your efficiency. Although you have the option to use “Recall to Inn” once you’ve registered in that specific inn, you can only use this sparingly, particularly, once every hour.

New World Faction Missions

Next are Faction Missions. Faction Missions are unlocked once you pledge your allegiance to the Syndicate, Marauder or Covenant Faction. These missions are obtained from Faction Boards in respective territories. What’s great about them is you have the option to go for PvE and/or PvP related quests depending on your preference. I wouldn’t recommend taking PvP quests if your level is below 15 since this requires you to enable the PvP Flag.

Doing so also makes you susceptible to damage from other players, which lowers your chances of surviving in early game. However, once your level is higher and you feel confident enough, then feel free to toggle this to fight against them and to gain extra XP along the way.

With PvE quests, on the other hand, you’ll notice that some of their Difficulty is categorized as solo or group. Between the two, Group Faction Missions provide more XP. Furthermore, you should also consider turning in at least 3 of these missions per day. The “Daily Bonuses Available” section on the upper center part of your screen means that when you complete 3 Faction Missions, the XP you gain would be double than what was indicated when you initially took them, giving you a huge boost. As such, I highly suggest taking the one with the highest XP available in order to take advantage of this bonus.

New World Town Projects

Town Projects still grant massive XP even if it was nerfed after the Beta. They continue to give around 300 to 1,000+ XP, which can increase to 3,000+ XP when your level is higher. You can accept up to 12 projects at a time from the Town Project Board so make sure to maximize the amount you take. These quests usually involve hunting animals, acquiring and delivering potions, and Crafting rations. If you have a hefty amount of gold, you can buy some of the materials or ingredients from the Trading Post to expedite its completion. But don’t make the mistake of only doing these projects because it gets too repetitive and boring after a while.

Secondary Activities

After the tutorial, you’ll be assigned to beginner territories, namely, Monarch’s Bluffs, Windsward, First Light, or Everfall. As a new player, it’s best to focus on a single location in the meantime in order to invest Territory Standing Points into. These standings or rewards provide you with bonuses. For instance, you can own a house. You can even decrease your crafting fee to consume less materials. What you want to prioritize is the XP Gain. Although it seems like a small percentage, this will yield you notable XP since you’ll be doing a ton of quests in your starting territory.

Gathering is one of the most important aspects of New World because they allow you to acquire materials for the creation of Equipment and Consumables, which you use for any type of activity. It is for this reason that you’ll also want to invest in Gathering Speed. Not only do you reduce the time by which you chop trees or mine ore, but you also gain some XP after performing these activities so don’t skimp on them especially when you discover new biomes.

For example, if you intend to gather Iron Ore in Monarch’s Bluffs, then it’s better to upgrade your Gathering Speed in this territory since you’ll spend a lot of your time in its surrounding areas. In order to boost your speed by up to 120%, you have to upgrade your Tools to Steel as soon as you can.

Next, while exploring towns and other parts of the map, you’ll notice these glowing blue pages lying around on top of tables or crates. These are documents that contain lore about New World. By simply clicking ‘Read’, you gain approximately 100 XP so remember to stop and acknowledge them from time to time.

Prior to logging out, make sure that you leave your character in a settlement. This is very important because while you’re not playing the game, you gain Rested XP Bonus. As such, you receive more XP depending on your downtime. You’re able to utilize this with any activity, regardless if it’s crafting or completing main quests, when you log back in.

When you’re traveling, you’ll see Uncharted Landmarks as indicated by question marks on your map. If you’re near them, make sure to pass by just to discover these places even if you have no intention of staying because doing so grants you bonus XP. Additionally, if you see another player who is fighting against a monster, try to catch up to hit that same creature. Don’t worry, you won’t be robbing that player of their rewards so it’s an acceptable way to gain that extra character and Weapon Mastery XP as well. It goes without saying that playing with a friend also speeds up your leveling since you both receive double the XP.

Expeditions
When you hit Level 25, you can go to Windsward, specifically at the West Side of the Amrine Temple to gain access to the repeatable Amrine Excavation. This is the introductory Expedition or PvE Dungeon similar to Dungeons in other MMORPGs. Before starting the dungeon, be sure to carry an Amrine Tuning Orb and Azoth Staff. The orb can be obtained for free when you start the Destiny Unearthed, Foreman’s Ledger, and Seeing Clearly Quests. You can also craft it at the Stonecutting Tier 2. Meanwhile, you’re able to acquire the staff upon completing the Forge Your Azoth Staff Main Quest.

Now that we have the requirements covered, we’ll move onto the party composition. You’ll need to form a group with at least 1 Tank to lure enemies together so they don’t run amok, 1 Healer, and the rest can be DPS characters. What’s great about farming Amrine Excavation from Levels 25 to 30 is you get about 25,000+ XP per hour since you can finish this in about 20 minutes max.
While running the Excavation for the first time, you’ll need to consider that it gives you access to another repeatable quest called the Bones for Barkimedes Expedition. Everyone in your group has to make sure to hit the Ravagers to get the bones for this quest. When you reach Level 35, you can move on to the Starstone Barrows Expedition in Everfall but do note that this takes a longer time to complete than the Amrine Excavation so feel free to experiment which between the two dungeons you prefer the most. In addition to the great XP you receive from these activities, you also acquire rare gear in the process.

Corrupted Breaches and Elites
In New World, you can level up two Weapons at the same time by switching between them when you kill enemies. The higher your Weapon Mastery level is, the more Abilities and Skills you unlock in order to try out multiple Weapons in a shorter amount of time. The best way to do this is by engaging in Corrupted Breaches and Elite Area activities.

Corrupted Breaches are world events, which are represented by red skulls on your map, that you gain access to at Level 25, after completing the Forge Your Azoth Staff Quest. These skirmishes are either done solo or in a group, however, it’s much better to complete Corrupted Breaches with others in order to quickly farm them.

When it comes to Elite Areas, you ought to farm the popular Dead Man’s Cove, which is located in the Southwest portion of Monarch’s Bluffs. This is a densely-packed cove with a boss and mobs that you can keep clearing with at least four other people. What’s great about Elites is they not only boost your Weapon and character levels, but they also provide you with rare gear and extra resources. Note that you can keep farming this area from Levels 25 to 35. At higher levels, you’re able to visit and complete higher tiered Elite Areas like the Stone Skull Fort in Cutlass Keys.
How to Level Crafting and Trade Skills Fast Pt.1
Mining

  • Prioritize Getting Iron Tools or Better
  • Choose the Gathering Speed Bonus
  • Keep Mining Iron, Silver, and Gold During Early Game
  • Start Mining Alchemy Stones At Level 50
  • Clear Out Enemies Before You Mine Nodes
Mining can be leveled up quickly by mining Iron, Silver, and Gold Veins in the early game. Iron and Silver are abundant with the former having the most nodes that are easy to find. Getting Iron and better pickaxes will decrease the gathering time, with the Gathering speed Territory Standing bonus from further lowering the time it will take for you to mine these nodes.

Once you hit Mining Level 50, it is best to start mining Alchemy Stones as well. These will provide you more EXP as the amount from Iron, Silver, and Gold Veins will not be enough.

Logging

  • Cut Down Trees to Get Logging EXP
  • Cut Down Trees Near Settlements
  • Upgrade your Logging Axe from Flint
  • Choose the Gathering Speed Bonus
  • Start Gathering Mature Trees at Level 50 Logging
  • Chop Wyrdwood and Ironwood Trees Once You Unlock Them
Logging can be leveled up quickly by cutting down trees fast. Using an Axe better than the Flint one you get early on will make cutting down Young Trees much faster, combine it with the Gathering speed Territory Standing bonus to be as fast as possible. Because you will be cutting a lot of trees down to level up you will want to do it near a settlement as you can end up being encumbered fast if you hold onto the logs.

Once you reach certain levels you will unlock the ability to cut down new trees. You will want to start cutting these trees down as the Young Tree you start with will not give enough EXP by then.

Harvesting

  • Harvest Plants and Magical Creatures for Harvesting EXP
  • Craft or Upgrade Your Harvesting Sickle
  • Harvest Herbs During the Early Game
  • Gather Hemp from Grassland Areas
  • Choose the Gathering Speed Bonus
  • Start Gathering Silkweed and Wirefiber Once You Unlock Them
Leveling Harvesting quickly will require you to harvest a bunch of Herbs and Hemp in the early game. To harvest them fast you will want to have the highest possible tier of Sickle equipped. Choosing the Gathering speed Territory Standing bonus will also increase your harvesting speed. Harvesting Magical Creatures will also increase your Harvesting, but they are much rarer.

Once you unlock the higher tier harvesting nodes like Silkweed and Wirefiber, you will want to start farming those as they will give more EXP.

Tracking & Skinning

  • Use Iron Skinning Knives or Better
  • Use a Bow or Musket for Hunting
  • Hunt Prey and Farm Animals in the Early Game
  • Hunt Predators for High EXP and Territory Standing
Leveling up Tracking and Skinning will require you to hunt and skin wild animals, from harmless prey to dangerous predators. Having a high-tier skinning knife will make the skinning much quicker. If you are not leveled high or have weak equipment at the moment, it is faster to focus on prey (e.g., Rabbits, Boars, and Elk) and farm animals (e.g., Cows and Pigs) as they are weaker and mostly won't fight back.

Once you have better equipment you will want to hunt predators like Wolves and Lynxes. They will give more of a fight but will provide much more EXP.

Fishing

  • Craft a Fishing Pole and Catch Fish
  • Upgrade Your Fishing Poles
  • Use Different Kinds of Bait for Fishing Bonuses
Leveling up fishing will have you using fishing poles at bodies of water and catching fish. The higher-tier fishing poles will increase your chances of catching fish and increase your EXP gain, so craft or buy the best fishing pole you can get. Using Bait will also give different bonuses when fishing, with bigger and better fish giving more EXP.

Smelting

  • Prioritize Crafting Charcoal When Starting Out
  • Gather Resources Near Your Settlement
  • Start Mining Iron and Silver Veins Once You Find Reliable Sources
  • Choose The Gathering Speed Option
  • Prioritize Gold Once You Reach Level 50
  • Buy Materials From The Trading Post
Leveling up Smelting will require you to use the Smelter to refine raw materials into Refined materials. The fastest way of getting levels, in the beginning, is by turning Green Wood into Charcoal. This is easy as Green Wood is abundant and can be easily farmed or bought. Refining the early game ores will also net your a lot of EXP. Mining them can take a while but will also increase your Mining skill, but for the fastest way, you can just buy the raw ores.

Woodworking

  • Gather As Much Green Wood As Possible
  • Refine In Bulk
  • Level Up Your Logging Simultaneously
  • Upgrade Your Logging Axe
  • Buy Raw Materials From The Trading Post
Woodworking is leveled up by refining raw wood materials into refined materials at the Woodshop. You can level your Logging at the same time as you will need a lot of wood to refine. But if you wish to level it up quickly without having to farm the wood, you can buy wood at the Trading Posts. Every time you unlock a new refined material, you will want to start getting the materials required for it and start refining those for more EXP.

Leatherworking

  • Hunt Down Boars and Wolves
  • Upgrade Your Skinning Knife
  • Start Crafting Rugged Leather As Soon As You Reach Level 50
  • Buy Materials From The Trading Post
Gaining EXP for Leatherworking will require you to turn raw hides into refined leathers at a Tannery. Hunting animals like Board and Wolves are the best source of Rawhide as they are weaker and are usually nearby settlements. You can also buy Rawhides if you wish to cut downtime. Once you unlock Rugged Leather you can further refine the Coarse Leathers that you have refined to get even more EXP.

Weaving

  • Farm a Large Amount of Hemp
  • Refine Plants Fibers at the Loom
  • Start Weaving Sateen, Silk, and Infused Silk Once Unlocked
You will need Fibers from Hemp and turn them into Linen to get EXP for Weaving at a Loom in the early game. You can also buy Fibers from the Trading Post, making it much faster to level Weaving. Once you unlock the next tier of refined material you will want to start to craft those for more EXP.

Stonecutting

  • Craft Items Under the Stonecutting Skill Tree
  • Bulk Craft Stone Blocks to Quickly Level Up Stonecutting
  • Buy Raw Materials From the Trading Post
  • Craft Gemstones for Massive EXP
You will need to refine Stones into Stone Blocks at Stonecutting Tables for fast EXP in the beginning as Stones are plentiful and easy to farm. You can even buy them at Trading Posts to make the process faster. For even more EXP you will want to craft Gemstones, but these are much rarer to obtain. You can find them through mining but they can also be bought at Trading Posts for a price.
How to Level Crafting and Trade Skills Fast Pt.2
Cooking

  • Cook Food with High Exp Reward
  • Level Up Your Gathering Skills
  • Buy Resources in Trading Post
  • Use High Tier Kitchens
Acquiring Cooking EXP will require you to turn ingredients into meals using Kitchens. In the beginning, you will only have access to a few recipes, we recommend you keep crafting the one that gives the most EXP. As you level up you acquire more recipes. If you can get their ingredients by gathering or buying them at the Trading Posts, then do so as they will give more EXP.

Weaponsmithing

  • Craft Items Under the Weaponsmithing Skill Tree
  • Bulk Craft Your Chosen Weapon to Level Up Weaponsmithing
  • Salvage Unwanted Weapons
In the beginning, you will need to craft tier 2 weapons at a Forge to get EXP for Weaponsmithing. These will require a lot of Iron Ingots that you can craft or buy. The amount of Iron Ore used in the materials will affect how much EXP that weapon will give. The different Iron weapons have the same ratios so it will not matter which ones you craft.

Arcana

  • Craft Lots of Potions
  • Level Up Your Gathering Skills
  • Use the Trading Post for Resources
  • Use High Tier Arcane Repository

Arcana can be leveled up quickly by crafting potions at a Arcane Repository. These are easier to craft in bulk as they require fewer resources to craft. At first, you are going to only have access to a few potions, but once you unlock the higher tier potions it is recommended to craft them as they give more EXP.

Armoring

  • Craft Armor in the Forge and Outfitting Station
  • Level Up Your Gathering Skills
  • Buy Resources From the Trading Post
  • Bulk Craft Low-Tier Gloves
You can gain levels by crafting armor recipes at the Forge or Outfitting Stations. It is recommended to bulk craft low-tier gloves and gauntlets as they use the least amount of resources making it easier to use up an exact amount for EXP gains. For Armoring level 0-49 we recommend Coard Leather Gloves and Iron Plate Gauntlets, then for Armoing 50+, you should craft Rugged Leather Gloves and Steel Plate Gauntlets.

Furnishing

  • Focus On Crafting Small Furnishings At The Beginning
  • Once Your Mining Hits Level 20, Prioritize The Warm Iron Sconce
  • Salvage Your Crafted Items
  • Start Crafting Ash Casual Chairs Upon Hitting Level 50
  • Buy Materials From The Trading Post
Furnishing is leveled up by crafting furnishings at a Workshop. This can be difficult as crafting furnishings can require a lot of resources with most of them using resources you can't just farm. In the beginning, you should craft small furnishings to get EXP. Buy resources at the Trading Posts if you can for faster leveling. You can salvage the furnishing you have crafted as well to get back some of the resources used.

Once you hit level 50+ we recommend crafting Ash Casual Chair for more EXP gain.

Jewelcrafting

  • Craft Trinkets in the Outfitting Station
  • Level Up Your Gathering Skills
  • Buy Resources From the Trading Post
  • Bulk Craft Flawed Amulets
Leveling Jewelcrafting will require you to craft trinkets at the Outfitting Station. We recommend you craft low-tier trinkets as the resources for them are easier to obtain, saving you time and money. If you bought the resources needed for the trinkets you can sell them at Trading Posts to get back some of the money.

Engineering

  • Craft Items Under the Engineering Skill Tree
  • Bulk Craft Spears to Quickly Level Up Engineering
  • Salvage Unwanted Equipment
Engineering can be leveled up by crafting items under the Engineering Tree at Workshops or Forges . In the beginning, we recommend bulk crafting Treated Wood Spears as they only require refined wood which are easier to farm for. Besides the low-tier spear, you can also bulk craft tools higher than tier 1. They give decent EXP and can also be sold off at Trading Posts.

Is it me or is the bear spot not working anymore? Killing the bear then skinning it amounts to 84XP, it respawns after ~30 seconds. Say you kill 1 per minute that's 4.8k/hour. I had expected them to respawn immediately.

Overall great guide, thanks!
