This is a guide for the mission Monastery Assault at the link below.

This is intended to be played as an Allied mission only. Do NOT select Axis at the beginning, as you will not have the ability to spawn. If you want to edit the mission and make Germany playable, that is up to you, but I did not plan this mission from the Axis perspective, only Allied.

Below is a synopsis for the mission. I highly recommend reading it before playing this mission.

Disclaimer: This is a fictional mission, set in WWII France post-D-Day. Any connection to real life events is completely coincidental.

This a coalition mission between British Commandos and U.S. Army Rangers. Your mission will begin the day after tomorrow in the early evening hours of June 12th, 1944. You will be assaulting Objective Tommy Hill, West of Paris.
Background
The Germans have setup an anti-aircraft base on top of a hill, which we've code named Objective Tommy Hill. We believe the base commander has setup his HQ in what's left of the monastery upper courtyard.

It used to be the St. Thomas Monastery up until 1941. When the Nazis realized the strategic importance of this hilltop, especially for shooting down our bombers, they told the monks to vacate the monastery. The local abbot refused, didn't even open the doors to meet the German Army commander. Of course that didn't sit well with the Nazis, and they spent the next 3 days shelling the hell out of that monastery just to teach a lesson. Then they marched in, tossed out the bodies, and set up their AA guns. The town at the base of the hill was collateral damage in their shelling, so we don't expect any local civilian populations in the AO.

Our bombers have had a rough go at it, trying to get to German ground targets behind their lines in France. The Allied Expeditionary Forces need this base taken out, so that they can get their bombers in to the weaken the German defenses. If this AA base is still operation in a couple days, then it will spell huge casualties for our boys.
Mission - Phase 1
Insertion into France will be in the evening before the planned assault. You'll be conducting an airborne drop several miles South of the objective, in order to not be taken out by those guns. From there you will need to make the trek North towards the objective, making sure you are not spotted along the way. You won't have time for any last minute reconnaissance, so we advise rallying in the ruins of the lower town, coordinate, organize, and prepare for the assault.

Our aerial reconnaissance has taken night-time, high-altitude photography of the objective. This first photo is the ruins of the town that used to be at the base of the monastery. The Brits will insert from the North, and the Americans from the South. Rally inside those ruins and prepare your men for the push uphill.

Mission - Phase 2
Your first objective is the lower checkpoint. The Brits will advance directly at the checkpoint, while the Americans attempt to find a flank from the South. This hill is covered in cliffs on most sides, and the sides that aren't have a heavy guard, so it won't be easy executing flanking maneuvers. Take your time, plan it out, and take advantage of every opening.

Objective 2, you'll need to reach this bend in the road, as we expect an infantry response after the fighting begins. There you can re-order yourselves and plan for the third objective.

Objective 3 is the lower barracks for the checkpoint soldiers. Here you can set yourselves and plan out a potential two-pronged attack on the upper checkpoint.

Objective 4 is that upper checkpoint. This the last part of the outer defense before you make it inside the AA base proper. From here the terrain opens up, and wider flanking maneuvers on the enemy are possible.

Mission - Phase 3
Objective 5 is the entrance of the base. There are mortars, MG, and anti-tank positions here, marked on the map.

Objective 6 is where it gets complicated. The American team will make the push towards the upper barracks and Eastern AA guns located on the map. The British team needs to make a wide sweep around to the North, North-West of the monastery to take out those Northern guns, and the small barracks there.

Objective 7 you head into the monastery. The Americans will push from the East and South into the lower courtyard of the monastery, and the Brits from the North, taking control of a narrow opening. By this time we expect the Germans will already have started to call in for additional support, so expect air targets, ground targets, and potentially even artillery at this point. There is a nearby airbase that may scramble some fighters, but there are no German armor units within a reasonable distance, so we don't expect any armored response. They may call for support from the local SS units that OSS tells us are in the area, doing God knows what. So don't forget about your six, and make sure you aren't being outflanked. By this point we may be able to get aerial support for you, but no promises.

Objective 8. Once you have taken control of the lower courtyard of the monastery, you need to make your way into the upper courtyard, continuing the assault in the directions you came from. This is where we believe the base command is established. This is the head of the snake. Take control of this location, and that AA base is obsolete. Don't expect it to end here. Like I said before, they won't just let us have this. Expect a counter assault, and maintain control of Objective Tommy until the main forces of the Allied Expeditionary Forces can arrive. If you see planes or infantry, jump on their guns and take them out. Use everything at your disposal to defend that position.

Additional Information
You won't have armor, aerial, or indirect-fire support, or reserve forces. You'll be fighting uphill against an entrenched enemy. The odds are against you, and it won't be easy. The Germans won't just let you have it, and they sure as hell won't be surrendering for fear of dying. These are paratroopers, they are elites just like you. You will need to fight hard for every inch you take. There won't be any ground commander, so squad leaders need to use their training and intuition. Take advantage of every opportunity, find weaknesses in their defense, and be a relentless adversary. This mission is crucial to the success of liberating France.

Godspeed.
