AMD Desktop Fixes

This game has issues and every guide to fix them is written by some illiterate person who can't type correctly. This is the short and sweet version for all things Wolfenstein: The New Order and how to hopefully fix them on your AMD system*.

*These tips may or may not fix anything.

FPS FIX - No Joke, this effin' worked for me...
HOLY SH*T YOU GUYS STILL ARE USING THIS GUIDE! THANK YOU SO MUCH! Just thanking you guys for the upvotes and awesomness over the years. If the new game that comes out in October 2017 has the same issues, ya GOD DAAAYUM right I'll be here to help with it.

My new system specs are as follows and this game still works fine.

i7-6800k @ 3.4gHz
Nvidia 1080 8g
32gb

And, as the comments will tell ya... the fixes in this guide from 2014 still work to this day if you are still having issues. I have no idea why they haven't fixed the majority of these issues.

THANK YOU AWESOME STEAM GAMER PEOPLE!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THIS FIX SOUNDS REDIC - BUT IT WORKED FOR ME.

Rename the executable filename from WolfNewOrder_x64 to WolfNewOrder_x32, PC gamers will notice a huge performance increase.

The article that validates it:
http://www.dsogaming.com/news/wolfenstein-the-new-order-possible-performance-boost-discovered/

Also... if you are STILL having the missing .exe file.......

Create a shortcut in the same folder as your WolfNewOrder_x64 and rename it to
WolfNewOrder_x32 and run the game from the shortcut.

It sounds silly, but it worked for me.
Why another guide on this?
Everyone is having issues, no one can find a fix and a million people on the Internet have the EXACT SAME solution that isn't working for anyone. That's why I am here. This guide is just a plethora of links and tricks that I PERSONALLY DID to make my game run smoothly SPECIFICALLY ON A 100% AMD SYSTEM (my specs are below). Yes, there are texture pops, yes the frame rate is not 500fps awesome - but it is very, very playable.

My rig:
Processor: AMD Phenom II Black Edition 3.3 (OC'd to 3.7)
Graphics: AMD Raedeon 270X
RAM: 12gigs

The above requirements are WAY more than needed to run this game flawlessly. AMD needs to give us a nice driver update, and soon! Be on the look for it because this will most likely fix EVERYTHING that EVERYONE is having problems with. The same goes for Nvidia users... just wait and all will be fixed.

Please rate-up and favorite this guide if you found it useful. That way others can gain the benefit of these tips and tricks.

Keep reading you Nazi hater.
PC Gamer / PC World Updates and Links
The most thorough review and tips to fix the game can be found below. These guys have been updating us since day one and they have it 100% spot on correct (at least I think so) in terms of the issues and fixes for all platforms.

PC Gamer's Update (5/20/2014):
http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/05/20/wolfenstein-the-new-order-technical-issues-the-problems-detailed-plus-a-few-fixes/

PC World's Update (5/21/1014):
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2157800/wolfenstein-pc-players-complain-of-issues-with-amd-nvidia-cards.html

In my opinion follow these two threads and you'll definitely know if and when to expect an update or patch. These authors are in direct communication with Bethesda and are getting updates out ASAP.

I will keep this thread updated as soon as I catch wind of PCGamer updates!
This is what I did...
**DO NOT USE THE SILLY COMMAND TO SKIP THE INTRO VIDEOS REFERENCED IN OTHER GUIDES. 90% OF THE TIME IT CRASHES THE GAME UPON STARTUP AND HAS NO IMPACT ON IMPROVING GAMEPLAY AT ALL**

The million dollar questions is, "How the heck did you get your game running?" Below is what I did specifically for my AMD system, however, the tips may benefit you as well if you have other cards.

Step One:
Go to http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=7799&game=Wolfenstein:%20The%20New%20Order and find out if your computer hardware can even run this game. If it falls short of any of the requirements, you may just be expereincing how bad you need to upgrade your computer. If you pass the test, please read on to Step Two.

----------------------------------------

Step Two:
Run your game in Administrator mode. I know I know, you probably think it's already is being run in Admin mode, but odds are it isn't. Do the following:

  • Find your game directory.
    It's typically C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Wolfenstein.The.New.Order

  • Right click the WolfNewOrder_x64.exe and click, "Properties."

  • Click the Tab, "Compatibility," and check the box that says, "Run this program as an administrator."

----------------------------------------

Step Three:
Everyone says, "Don't update to the newest Catalyst Control Center." I can't say they are correct as I am running the latest BETA driver from AMD and the latest CCC software. Do what you want, but I, much like BJ Blazkowicz, punched that stupid idea in the face. Use the link below for the latest AMD BETA drivers for Windows 7/8 running 64-bit platforms.

This link is for 64-bit Windows 7/8 Desktop users only!
http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows+7+-+64#amd-catalyst-packages

Keep in mind that I am not responsible for your stupidity if you choose to download this without knowing your exact specs. The above link is for Windows 7/8 64-bit operating systems only. Don't be dumb and download it without knowning exactly what kind of system you are running.

----------------------------------------

Step Four:
  • Open up your Steam game Library.

  • Right click Wolfenstein: The New Order and click "Properties."

  • UNCHECK the box that says, "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game."
This will, on average, free up at least one core from your processor.

  • Click "Set Launch Options."

  • Insert the following into the box: +r_multisamples "8" +vt_maxaniso "16"
You might think this will ask more of your GPU, and it probably does, but for some reason I got immediate increases in game play after doing this.

  • Click, "OK," and then click, "Close."

My Game Settings...

You MUST turn MAX PPF and SHADOW RESOLUTION to their lowest setting to achieve the best results. These are game hogs, and I assume we'll see a patch that fixes them shortly.
