Ground operations of the Second World War were characterized by the mass use of armored vehicles. While tanks were introduced during World War I, their full potential wasn’t exploited until this subsequent global conflict. Throughout the arms race between the largest warring nations, specializations like reconnaissance tanks, Jagdpanzer and artillery tanks emerged. New, more heavily armored and armed models were created almost every month.

The role of the artillery is to attack enemy targets from a safe distance. This form of warfare was often used when preparing an attack and when attempting to interfere with enemy troop movements. Target observers could instruct artillery personnel to fire via radio or field telephone, but this proved to be an imprecise mode of operation, especially once ground combat began.

During World War II, artillery regiments used high explosive grenades, smoke grenades and flare grenades.

Tanks combine the advantages of fast movement with the strength of very high fire power. Unfortunately they are weak against Tactical Bombers and anti-tank units.

Tanks

There is a varied range of tanks available in Panzer Tactics HD. Some are more efficient against soft, others against hard targets. But all tanks have in common that they can only attack opponents in adjacent hex fields.

Anti-Air units may be strong against all air units, but they have weak armor values. Anti-Tank units are not just strong against tanks. They can be used against all armored targets. But watch out for Bombers!

Anti-Air & Anti-Tank

Anti-Air units are best used against enemy airplanes – but can also fire at ground targets. That should not be the rule, but it is a great addition in certain combat situations. Anti-Air guns are obviously great for defending other units against enemy planes, but they can also be used near cities to build up ambushes and to surprise the attacking opponent.

Anti-Tank units are comparatively cheap to recruit and very efficient against tanks and hard targets in general. However, their movement range is not that high (exception: SU-76M Assault Gun). They are qualified for letting enemy tanks run into ambushes or for sieging enemy cities.

You can mount artillery units to trucks to increase the movement range - but it is not possible to attack in the same turn.

Artillery

In Panzer Tactics HD, artillery is used to decimate the cover of infantry and weaken them from a safe distance. Position your artillery behind your infantry, so they can give each other covering fire. Special artillery, such as “the Katyusha”, have a big movement range that allows you to first find the perfect position and then attack from safe distance afterwards.
