I would honestly suggest to just play on fight (not flight, dont be scared to attack) for the whole game. Solo no fil where you constantly drop hot worked well to build my confidence. Confidence is key, the more confident you are, the more your skill will be used to its potential.
A few tips:
Try and constantly get behind the enemy to confuse and annoy them
Achieve a high ground or chokepoint advantage before going in
Only go full aggro after you get a knock
Remember to move and starfe during a fight
Dont commit to one spot only (eg. dont stay on that crate, jim, they know you're there)
Dont blame the gun difference and just get used to all the guns, e.g. after you die with a p2020, go to firing grounds and practice with the p2020
Play a backwards fight if you're low, dont run as that makes you more of a target and easier to kill
Play to your legends abilities, e.g. caustic trap the doors, with octane run circles around the enemy
