The 55HP Monk
The 55HP Monk is a special kind of monk setup based on the enchantment "Protective Spirit". (Which has the ability to limit incoming damage at 10% of the current maximum health)

The number 55 is the minimum amount of health obtainable with items (not counting death penalty) and translates to 5 damage. This low damage is easily healed or reduced with common skills.

The 55HP monk is a very flexible build; "Protective Spirit" and most health regeneration or damage reduction skills are non-elite and effective even with a low investment in Protection Prayers. The monk skills also grant excellent energy management skills in the form of "Balthazar's Spirit" and "Essence Bond", allowing freedom of dealing damage. Many variants of the build depending on the area in which the build will be used.
Equipment
  • Any weapon with 20% of Enchanting, preferably with +5 energy inscription.
  • The off-hand item is the -50hp Grim Cesta obtained via the Cities of Ascalon[wiki.guildwars.com] quest.
  • Any armor with full Radiant insignias (which add bonus energy) is ideal because, due to the low health, armor bonuses are completely immaterial.
  • All armor pieces must have Monk superior runes: one of each with one extra to bring your health down to 105 (this doesn’t include health reduction from the -50hp Grim Cesta)

Skills
These skills are the most common you will come across playing any 55HP monk build variant.

Protective Spirit
Enchantment Spell. (19seconds) Incoming damage is reduced to 10% of maximum Health.

Healing Breeze
Enchantment Spell. (15seconds) +8 Health regeneration.

Shield of Absorption
Enchantment Spell. (7seconds) Reduces incoming damage by 5.

Shielding Hands
Enchantment Spell. (8seconds) Reduces incoming damage by 18. End effect: heals for 50

Shield of Judgement
Elite Enchantment Spell. (21seconds) Deals 53 holy damage to foes attacking. Causes knock-down

Blessed Signet
Signet. Gain 3 Energy for each enchantment you maintain. (14max)

Essence Bond
Enchantment Spell. You gain 1 Energy whenever you take damage.

Balthazar's Spirit
Enchantment Spell. You gain 1 Energy when taking damage.

Blessed Aura
Enchantment Spell. Monk enchantments you cast last 23% longer.

Mending
Enchantment Spell. +3 Health regeneration.

In some ocassions you might face enemies who try to remove your enchantment spell. For these specific farms you want to use Spell Breaker

Spell Breaker
Elite Enchantment Spell. (15seconds) You cannot be the target of enemy spells.

General Usage of Skills
  • Before engaging the fight, cast your upkeep enchantments. You won't be getting a lot of energy regeneration, so use Blessed Signet to regain energy out of combat.
  • Before aggroing mobs, cast Protective Spirit and Healing Breeze/Shield of Absorption/Shielding Hands. Remember you ALWAYS want to have an upkeep of these enchantments.
  • The energy gained from Balthazar's Spirit and Essence Bond should be enough to always keep your energy high in combat.
  • Blessed Aura and your weapon of Enchanting will prolong Shield of Judgment, which is your core offensive spell.
  • The build is most successful against melee attackers and is least successful against spell casters (especially Mesmers). To use it for learning purposes, find an area with a heavy concentration of melee attackers (such as the Mountain Trolls in Talus Chute or the Jade Brotherhood Knights in Wajjun Bazaar) and take them on. You wont lose any health so don't worry about dying.
Builds - Mountain Trolls
A very common and easy build to learn 55HP monk is the Shield of Judgement varient.

Template code: OwAU0QH/SYF1DkGMl6TeAUkA

This build is used to farm Mountain Troll's and 2 elite mobs in Talus Chute, outside of Droknar's Forge.

Drops: Gold/Purple Items, Elite Warrior Tomes, Elite Ranger Tomes, Mountain Troll Tusk

Builds - Jade Brotherhood Knights
This build is used to kill Jade Brotherhood Knights and elite "Lian, Dragon's Petal".

Template code: OwAU0QH/SYF1DkGMlPUeAUkA

For this build we want to swap out "Essence Bond" for "Zealot's Fire" for extra boss damage.

The Jade Brotherhood Knights are found in Canthan, at "Wajjun Bazaar".

Drops: Purples/Golds, Elite Elementalist Tomes, Jadeite Shards, Bolt of Silk/Cloth, Jade Bracelets, Jade Brotherhood Armguards

Pro's and Con's
Pros
✔️ Only 3 health regeneration is needed to counter one damage packet.
✔️ This is a primarily solo build, which offers higher drop yield.
✔️ The low health makes Protective Spirit reduce all received damage to 5 per hit
✔️ This damage can easily countered by health regeneration or Shield of Absorption to reduce that damage to 0.

Cons
❌ Though powerful when enchanted, this build collapses in seconds if not coordinated correctly.
❌ You can be killed immediately if Protective Spirit is not maintained.
❌ Heavy Health Degeneration is not considered damage and therefore bypass Protective Spirit.
❌ Without Spell Breaker, areas containing foes which frequently remove enchantments are impossible.
