Everquest Next Landmark is all about building and creating things. You can build inside your claim or anywhere else in the open world, but whatever you make in the open world will only last a minute before vanishing so if you want your creations to last you need to claim land. This guide is made in the beta of the game so it is possible that some things might change.
How to claim land
In Everquest Next Landmark you start with a (Claim) Flag in your bag. For now you start with only 1 flag, meaning you’re limited to one claim. Probably later on you can earn (or craft) flags.

You can claim a piece of land by placing the flag. You can’t just place it anywhere, you will have to find land that isn’t already claimed by someone else.
  • Pick a server and a map and teleport there.
  • Open your minimap (press M) and select the box that says “Show Claimable Land”.

You will see the minimap now has some red spots on it (or a lot of red spots on it like on the picture).
The red squares mark all the claims on the map. The land that’s not red is still available to claim. Some maps are pretty full, and some maps are not.

At first I placed my claim in a forest because it was flat and I liked the trees and the green surroundings, but it was quite far away from the teleport point so I had to run back. Eventually I moved to a desert area that is close to the portal.

Tier 3 maps are the place where you’re going to spend most of your time since you progress through tier 1 and tier 2 in a few hours, so if you don’t want to teleport to much, a tier 3 map is a good place for your claim.

Anyway, once you get to an unclaimed spot, right click your flag. This will take you to the minimap. You’ll have a square to place, the square is your claim. Place it in an available area and you will get a pop-up asking if you’re sure that’s where you want to place your claim. Accept and you’ll become the owner of the plot.
Claim size
For now you can’t expand your claim. You’re stuck with a plot of land that is 174 voxels long, 174 voxels wide and 250 voxels tall. Although it might not sound as much, you can fit quite a lot on your claim, unless you’re building for giants.

Somewhere in the future you’ll be able to own a massive amount of land. If you look at the way the claims are positioned on the map, you can see there are not next to each other. Each claim has a buffer zone around it where it can expand. This buffer zone is 522 voxels in all directions. When they will allow us to expand we could build and own entire cities.
Claim upkeep
Claim upkeep will be added later on. To keep your claim you’ll have to pay a small amount of coin every set period of time, think of it as rent. The details around claim upkeep haven’t been announced.
Claim management
To open the claim interface press U. This brings up a list of all your claims, but for now there is only one. If you click on your claim the “Edit Claim” menu will pop-up.
In this menu you can edit the title, description and tags of your claim.

The title can be edited in the first field. You can leave it as default or pick a new title for your claim, let people know what you’re building !

In the second field you can edit the description of your claim. It will only display 64 characters so it can’t be an entire story.

The tags field has no use right now, but further down the line. The tags will serve as searching criteria most likely.

Right now you can’t sell or reset your claim, you can only delete it.
Claim permissions
For now your claim belongs to you and only you. Everyone can walk on your claim and use any crafting stations that you might have placed on your claim, but they can’t alter it or modify/delete any of your constructions.

Soon, you’ll be able to allow your friends to help you out with construction, but for now it’s all yours.
Building on your claim
You can build everything and anything you want on your claim using the Building Tools and the Props. For now the props we can craft are quite limited, but this is a building game, I’m sure we will have plenty of stuff to choose from soon enough.

You might want to consult the Terms of Service and the End User Licence Agreement before building anything out of the box, there are some things that might get your banned, like nudity.
Moving your claim
If you don’t like the spot you’re claim is at anymore and you want to move you can delete your claim. The Claim Flag along with all the materials and props you placed on your claim will be returned to your bag. If you don’t have enough space to store everything that’s on your claim in your bag it won’t let you delete the claim.

When you delete your claim a template of it will be created. In theory you can claim a new piece of land and then place the claim template on top of it and you’re old claim will be restored so you don’t have to rebuild it.

In practice this doesn’t really work, it’s close to impossible to place a claim template on a new location if you built underground or close to the edges.

It’s best to save what you build on your claim in smaller pieces and then replace them on your new claim.

Have fun playing Landmark!

This guide is out of date. Many info is relevant but some of the systems and terminology have been changed. For the latest in claiming a Build Site, go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YnBmejA5MWE

I made a claim but i dont know how to build stuff and the game has no tutorial and almost no instructions on how to do anything. i ended up placing about 4 little dirt blocks next to each other before the game did it's routine bug out and crash cycle.
