Two things: 1st, one does not simply choose to do no stabby stabby at all. 2nd, I need that one shot kill get the pace going.

Yup, and slowly learning to use it effectively. Basic video game logic would be that stabby stabby makes enemy dead, but this game got the concept of physiques, where sometimes its better to push an oppenent down, and let the weight of your body and knife fall down on them. It's really a lot of fun to think about the mechanics in this game.
