Pend Oreille Valley Railroad

Background
The Pend OReille Valley Railroad was originally two separate railroads, one heading east/west through Newport WA, and one heading north to Metaline Falls. The east/west line was the Great Northern mainline, which hosted not only crack passenger trains such as the Empire Builder, but also fast transcontinental freights. The line to the north began life as the Idaho and Washington Northern, which was eventually absorbed by the Milwaukee Road and connected to their Pacific Extension. After the demise of the Milwaukee Road and the creation of Burlington Northern, both lines were abandoned for several years until they were rehabilitated by the Pend O'Reille Valley shortline (POVA), which operates the lines today.

The Layout
This layout is now fully complete, and features both the ex-GN mainline to Sandpoint as well as the ex-Milwaukee branch to Metaline Falls. The GN mainline is a long, flat, line with gentle curves as it follows the Pend OReille River. The Milwaukee Branch on the other hand is much hillier, climbing it's way into the Selkirk mountains nearly to the Canadian border. The Milwaukee branch also features the POVA shops, where the Pend OReille Vallley RR services it's fleet as well as helps restore historical equipment.

As of 4/3/2022 the layout is now 90% skyboxed, with some areas around Newport and Sandpoint semi-unfinished. Expect a small update for these at some point.
