Basics
So you want to be a trolldier, huh?

Here are a few things you will need to get started.

1. Rocket Jumper

This thing is what you are going to need to get around. It's a rocket launcher with a lot more ammo, that does no damage to you—or anyone else. It makes you mobile, at the cost of most of your defense against enemies. You can't carry the intelligence in Capture The Flag OR Special Delivery.

2. Mantreads

Most trolldiers use the Mantreads as their secondary. You're going to want these because if you mess up your Market Garden, you can try to land on your enemies head as a consolation prize. You can also land & swing, killing most enemies.

3. Market Gardener

The Market Gardener has no random critical hits. On the flipside, it has 100% chance of critting when you are rocket jumping. (Note: The game takes two things into account to determine if you are rocket jumping: If you've been hit by a rocket, and if you are in the air. Remember that, it's important.)

Rocket Jumping
Rocket Jumping. You need to learn to do it. There are many different ways and types. I'll go over some of the more traditional ones right now.

1. The Rocket Jump

Shoot yourself with a rocket, and jump. That is the simplest form of rocket jumping possible. You probably won't get a lot done with it, however.

2. The Crouch Rocket Jump

This one is like the previous, except you get much more height with it. It makes you even more mobile than before.

3. Pogo

Using rockets to say in the air, without touching the ground. That's pogo. It takes a lot of learning, and isn't very useful in TF2 itself. Just for fun on offline servers, or getting around a wide-open lowgrav server.

4. Speed Pogo

A harder and faster version of Pogo. Pretty self-explanatory.

5. Matador

A quick rocket jump that only gets you slightly in the air. This one is used by pro trolldiers in close quarters when dealing with someone where they can't just rocket jump into the air and come down and Market Garden them. It's perfected so the game registers it, but it's quick and fast.

Market Gardener-ing
You go flying through the air, about to Market Garden an unsuspecting sniper, but you get your Mar-Gar out too slowly and miss him. He turns around and SMGs you to death. What happened?

TIMING. TIMING, TIMING, TIMING!

You need to compensate for weapon switch time. That's the most important thing. Switch early, or even as soon as you get in the air.

When you are about to hit, crouch. It gives you a half-second of airtime that can save you.

Learn the range. You'll be too long (faraway) and miss, or to short (close) and get only the Mantread stomp. You need to find that just right point.
Air Strafing
You need to move while you are in the air. It helps you aim your Mar-Gar correctly. There are two ways of doing this.

1. WAD mode

This version of Air Strafing is simple. Your turning ability is worse, but you can go further forward. It gives you more speed and less control. Use it if you have a target that is slightly further away. You use A & D to strafe, while holding W for more speed.

2. AD mode

You have better turning ability here, but you can't go as far. It's the same as WAD, just without holding W.
Other Tips
1. Buildings. If you are flying through the air and see a Mini-Sentry, go up to it and destroy it. Then simply rocket jump away. Don't do this with other buildings, however, ESPECIALLY not level 2s and level 3s.

2. Troll vs. Troll

NEVER, EVER EVER! let an enemy trolldier escape. Pursue him until the ends of the earth! map!

Lastly...

3. CLASS MATCHUPS (VERY IMPORTANT!)

The perfect classes to Mar-Gar in TF2...

Are the sniper and the demoman.

A critical Market Garden does 195 damage. That's not enough to kill a full health Soldier or Heavy. Avoid these classes. (Excluding Trolldiers.)

Spies can deadring, Medics usually have a friend, Engineers have their buildings (If you see an engie alone, go for it), Pyros can airblast you away and Reserve Shoot you, Scouts are fast and can get away in time.

Snipers don't notice you, they're busy sniping. Demos are pretty slow and can be killed by a Mar-Gar crit (Not Demoknights!!!)
Lastly...
Practice! Have fun! Do your best! Don't get upset if you mess up! Keep trying! or go rage heavy like the noob you are

Trolldiers are hard to master, but can be great if you know what you're doing.
