Basics

Navigate north until you reach the first waystation. Use the scan button (or spacebar) each time you travel to a new node. Collect samples and analyze creatures along the way. Make sure to read the description of samples because some of them are useful.

Use Shrillsacs to clear a path.

Use samples to refuel your Power/Oxygen.

Fast Travel

You can refill your Oxygen/Power for free at the waystation.

You can also fast travel to any Waystation while you're near the surface or safe area.

Sample Storage

Store your samples in the Bay or leave the base by using the Dive Map.

Sample Analysis

Analyze samples in the Lab in order to fill out the taxonomy pages.

Drag samples into the lab in order to analyze them.

Strong Currents (spoilers)

There is an area to the right of the first Waystation with Soothspores. These can be used to regenerate nearby stalks and slow down the strong currents.

Later on you will be asked to cross the strong currents to the north of the Waystation. This requires gathering 4 Spark Colonies in order to repair the propulsion system. These can be obtained from Reef Bloats by using Shrillsacs on them.

Those of you who are playing on Switch and are trying to figure out how to move samples from the suit to the base like me, Hold A and use the left stick to move them over. I experimented and searched for answers online for an hour (this was the most useful page I managed to find and it didn't have the answer I was looking for) before I tried holding down buttons. The UI in this game could be more helpful.

Keyboard details (because it took me a frustrating amount of time to figure out):

After you scan (space bar) click on any white symbols you see, they turn yellow confirming your click. Triangles become nodes that you can move to. Close scanning (ctrl). Now you should see the symbols that this basic guide starts with.

Your character/suit is in the center. Turn the bar until it draws a line to the Node (as seen in the Strong Currents picture). Press W to travel the line.

Pay attention to what EV is saying, because she gives you tips on how to use the items you are picking up.

Yeah, the game doesn't hand hold you. It's a pretty simple game but some of the mechanics require some experimentation.

This game is more difficult than actually Deep Sea Space Diving........
