The lake in grid M9 has two caves, if you go in either one (interconnected) all the way back to the left and down in the water there is a location for a biofuel drill (located to the right back portion, highlighted green) that needs to be placed to mine the recent cave in, its part of the Black sand mission. Im sure there are other ways to the desert(s) via the arctic zone or other caves but i personally have not explored them

np, it really erks my nerves when people just blindly make uneducated negative comments about things they personally dont understand, at first i kinda thought it was true until i actually explored the map and was able to figure it out, Great map by the way, and its not for "wussies" as some poster eluded to, its a really great tool to have to allow for proper planning of base location in reference to good mining sources. In time you can remember them all but for now its not for wussies, its for intelligent people who want to make their lives a bit less difficult on icarus

it is fully interactive, you know, sometimes you just have to think beyond your limitations and youll notice a little button at the top right of the map, that is a drop down menu. Here, you can do what, INTERACT, by clicking what you want to see and it loads it to the map. Well how bout that....

The cave located in L12 (ID 21 on your interactive map), has a hole at the back which allows you to go under the map.
