Ubisoft has released a remastered version of Beyond Good & Evil, where I believe all the problems described here are solved. By releasing new version, they removed the old one from Steam, leaving no possibility to buy it. Nevertheless, if you have no desire buying 20th Anniversary Edition and you have the OG version - you are welcome to follow the guide!

To begin, I suggest you to launch the game after the installation process is finished, because:

• Launching the game will create necessary config files in the game's directory.
  
  
• It will also register the game in the NVIDIA Control Panel.

To improve the compatibility of Beyond Good & Evil on modern PC we need:

1. Open Steam and navigate to your game library. Right-click on the game and select Properties from the context menu. In the Properties window, go to the Local Files tab and click on Browse Local Files.
   
   
2. Right-click the BGE.exe file and select Properties. Navigate to the Compatibility tab.
   
   
3. Change the compatibility mode of the file to Windows XP (Service Pack 3).

After changing compatibility settings, we need to adjust the game's resolution and frame rate to ensure optimal performance. By default, Beyond Good & Evil has a resolution of 640x480.

1. In the game's installation folder, launch SettingsApplication.exe.
   
   
2. In the Graphics Settings tab, select your desired resolution.
   
   
3. Recommend not to change the refresh rate to anything higher than 60 Hz, as this can cause the game be faster (in a bad way), than it need to be.
   
   
   
4. Go to the Advanced Settings tab and check 'Manual compatibility settings' with 'HW Vertex Processing'. This is the key setting for stable and playable performance.
   
   
   
5. Alternative: If you still experience issues with frame rate, you can try downloading this patch[drive.google.com] and extract all files to the game's installation folder.

If the game is still running at a frame rate higher than 60 FPS, try the following:

1. Open the NVIDIA Control Panel.
   
   
2. Go to 'Manage 3D Settings' and navigate to the 'Program Settings' tab.
   
   
3. Click 'Add', find Beyond Good & Evil and click 'Add Selected Program'.
   
   
4. After that it should be displayed in 'Select a program to customize'. It may be listed as 'BANG! - Gunship Elite(bge.exe) (bge.exe)'
   
   
   
5. Find the 'Vertical sync' option and change it to 'On'.
   
   
   
6. Also find the 'Max Frame Rate' option, change it to 'On' and set it to 60 FPS.
   
   
   
7. Then press 'Apply Changes' (in the lower right corner of the screen) and close the Control Panel.
