Lich is a fantastic hero to learn the game with. He's very simple to learn, but you can do more than you'd expect with him once you learn the nuances of his abilities. You control lane positioning, get an experience/gold lead, and manage your mana more forgivingly than most heroes, throw your weight around the lane from level two on, helps boost team survivability, and mercilessly dunk on teams with bad positioning. Your big weaknesses are: no escape, very squishy, people who know how to play against Lich.
