Introduction
Welcome to our Steam guide!

At the time of writing this, ranked servers for survival are up and running, but they're both laggy and buggy - using the firearms is simply not an option.

ONLY DARU KILLED IN RANKED GAMES COUNT TOWARDS THE ACHIEVEMENT!

So, after trying several different strategies for a bit (console strats don't work at all for PC, as it turns out), we came up with what we think is both the easiest and fastest way of getting 500 Daru kills for the "Lumberjack" achievement.
Even if the servers get back in shape and stop lagging, this should still be the most optimal strategy as it requires little to no effort to perform, and it is 100% consistent every time.
Also, it works just fine whether you play solo or coop. However, the more players you've got, the faster you'll reach your goal, as the Daru spawn count depends on the number of players in-game.

It's worth noting that you'll get the "Survivor Was Born" achievement
early-on in the process of grinding.
Preparations
Servers: Ranked
  • again, only Daru killed during ranked survival games count towards the achievement, this is very important!

Map: Mayan Jungle
  • that map is essential to the strategy, enough said.

Weapons required: Knife & Flashlight
  • the only 2 weapons that seem to work consistently despite the server issues.
  • If, at the time of reading this, you can use your firearms, that's great, go for it!

Goal: 4 Daru kills in coop (2 people); 3 Daru kills solo.
Strategy
At the time of writing this guide, killing Daru with the traps is the only viable option, that is another reason we chose this map, as it has plenty of traps activated via pressure pads, so you don't have to shoot anything at all. Lure a Daru into your trap of choice, and once he is close enough, press the pad and get into the safe spot or run out of the trap, both options will do just fine.

The strategy itself is very simple and pretty much identical for both coop and solo; here it is step by step:

1. As soon as you spawn, run to the wooden bridge in the middle of the map.

2. From there, jump onto the broken pillar (hence the name of the strat) above the fire trap and just sit there for 2:50 minutes (you can access the timer at any time by pressing Tab) until the timer for the 1st wave's mummy spawns runs out.

4. Once it does, go ahead and kill everything that's spawned. You don't have to get off the pillar to kill them even, just stay on the left side of the pillar as shown on the screenshot below, light them up and knife them down!

5. If you decided to jump down at any point, get back on the pillar ASAP! If you're still on it, just stand there and wait 3 minutes for the next wave to spawn and for their timer to run down. If you're playing with a friend, the 1st Daru will spawn at approximately 1:12 on the timer. All Daru, at least on this map, always spawn at 1:12, regardless of the number of players. Once you dealt with the Daru, get back on the pillar and wait out the remaining 40-50 seconds of the timer.

6. Wave 3 is pretty much the same as above except the basic grunts are a bit stronger, watch out not to get hit by the sword of a burning mummy (espicially by those that wear headpieces); depending on the difficulty, this might oneshot you. Usually, the riflemen can't do anything and just miss every shot while you're standing on the pillar, but they CAN hit you from certain angles. If they pester you too much, you can always jump down and deal with them real quick. The Daru will spawn at 1:12 as per usual (this would be the 1st Daru if you're playing solo). Again, after the Daru's dead, get into the 'god spot' or just run around until the spawn timer runs out, kill the mummies afterwards.

7. Wave 4 is more of the same, but there'll be 2 Daru spawning simultaneously at 1:12. After you've got both Daru, just run into the shieldmen and suicide.

8. There was no step 3!

If the guns aren't working for you either, there's no real point in attempting wave 5, as it is both very slow and dangerous, and extremly inconsistent as far as Daru kills go. It's faster, easier, and more time-efficient to just start a new game.
Each game, depending on how efficient you are, should take about 13:30-15:00 minutes. Rinse and repeat until you get 500 Daru kills.

As you can see, the strategy is indeed very easy to execute and jumping onto the pillar is by far the hardest part. Overall, the achievement is pretty easy too, but extremely time-consuming.

It's pretty hard to say for sure how much time it takes to get 500 daru kills this way, as it depends both on your efficiency and how many players are willing to just idle in the game for the sake of you getting extra Daru spawns, but my rough estimate would be 35-50 hours.

Good luck surviving the grind!
Accolades
We'd like to give a special shout-out to whoever built this map. If it wasn't for them, the grind, especially solo, would've been very stressful and potentially even more time consuming. As is, it's an AFK simulator with breaks for killing Daru - slow, but easy.
Epilogue
If you found this guide at all useful, consider giving it a thumbs up, that would mean a lot to us. <3 <3 <3

Really nice. Thanks for that. I guess it would be nice if you could post a link to a download to your 499 daru save, so others dont have to grind through this.
