Overview of the overview
Welcome to Daylight, a procedurally generated death er.. jump scare labyrinth. I will attempt to give an overview of some of the mechanics within the game and follow it up by some tips.

Daylight is a game set in the same principle as the Slender games in which you need to find a certain number of objects while avoiding the enemy. The enemy gets more persistent and aggressive the longer you take and the more items you acquire. The locations of the items are varied as with the layout of the map.

Here you'll see the main menu, nothing much pretty straight forward and simple.

You have

Pretty self explanatory but lets take a look at the Settings Menu

Controls

As far as I know the game does not show a diagram of the controller controls so I'll list them here. They're pretty weird though in my opinion and as far as I can tell there is no Map button, maybe they will update the controls in the future.

Setting
Description
Brightness
Adjust in game brightness
Resolution
Adjust your game resolution. Higher is better but is dependant on your monitor and hardware capabilities, try turning this option down if you're having lag in game
Resolution Upscaling
Upscaling takes a image of a resolution and stretches it to a larger size. I can render the game at native 1080p so I can use Full while someone else might use a lower setting if they can't run the game at that resolution
Fullscreen
Fullscreen, Borderless, Windowed
Vsync
Helps with screen tearing but locks your FPS to your monitors refresh rate
RealD
Play the game in 3D if you have 3D compatible hardware, monitor and glasses
Lighting Quality
Change the quality of the lighting in game
Shadow Quality
Change the quality of shadows in game
Post Process AA Quality
Anti-Aliasing (AA) reduces the "jaggies" or the "stairstepping" on (unsmooth) edges/contrasts in the game
Depth of Field
DOF is the process of focus. What you focus on will stay sharp while the background and edges will be blurred
DOF - Bokeh
This will increase the blur
Ambient Occlusion
Ambient Occlusion adds shadows to the game or more specifically shading
Ambient Effects
Adds realistic effects to cloth and fog

Twitch Intergration

This is pretty simple for the most part. This game has a special feature, it's meant to be streamed to get the most scares possible. Just login to your twitch and stream using your favorite software. Only Xsplit and OBS have been tested with Daylight (I recommend OBS)

Now the fun part is that your viewers can type in certain commands that will make an effect happen to you in game such as typing "cat" will make you hear a meow, "owl" you'll hear a hoot and "light" will turn your light off.

Now it's been programmed to prevent spam so there appears to be a time limit to how often these commands can be used. There are many other commands but no list of them has been released, it's up to you to find out what they are, I'll hint at trying "scream" "ghost" and "cry" but who knows
Interface

As you can tell the UI is really simple but there are a few things you need to learn about.

Starting from the bottom left going right, you have your Glowstick icon, this will tell you how many glowsticks you currently have (or don't have)

Next is Flares pretty much the same deal here.

After that is Threat, now this is something to help you figure out how aggressive the Witch will be going after you. It fills up the farther you progress in that level.

Last at the bottom we have Remnants these are the objects you have to find in the level this will tell you how many you have left to find and how many you've collected so far.

At the top left we have the area that will rarely be used and the only thing that will be popping up there is when the game is loading or saving. While these are happening you may experience some lag or stuttering, just don't move and give it a second to finish what it's doing and it'll be fine.

In the center is your smartphone or PDA as I prefer to call it, this will be used only for the map and your primary source of light.

As you can see around the edges is some alerting red um puzzle/maze engraved blood? Yeah you should be used to this technique for health now but if you're not, basically it happens when the Witch has gotten a little too close for comfort or you keep trying to stare her down. Once she's gone away your vision will recover. If you're ever cornered by her just look away, the wall, ground, ceiling or turn your back and walk backwards, you'll recover and she'll go away.
Glowsticks & Flares

Ah glowsticks good for a cheap but entertaining light show or a hardcore rave party, unfortunately you'll not be using them for either of those here. Instead you'll be using them to help find clues to progress through the level before you get your ass handed to you.

You can only hold a maximum of 4 glowsticks at a time (bummer I know, you can never have too many glowsticks) They're not forever, like all real life glowsticks they seem to only last about 2 minutes and can be found in anything that is searchable for a quantity of 1 or if you find a bag like the one pictured here, an unlimited supply.

As I said these are important to finding clues around the levels to help you progress faster. The longer you reside in the level the more likely you are to get caught and lose. They're not needed if you know what items are searchable already though or are trying to be brave but they are good if you're in a jam or stuck going in circles and may have missed something.

There is an example of what clues will look like, most will be some form of cabinets, boxes, desks or lockers that will either contain a note, remnant, flare or glowstick (which you won't pick up if you're already at max)

The next thing glowsticks are good for besides casting an eerie green glow is footprints, specifically seeing yours, it helps if you get turned around, you can figure out where you just came from.

Flares

Flares have one use and one use only to fend off the Witch (Burn the Witch!) they're not worth much more than that. Pretty simple.

They on the other hand last only 1 minute instead of two and are also more rare to find than glowsticks. You can save your flares though if you are done using it just switch to a glowstick and you'll regain the flare.

Flares can be found in all searchable areas same as glowsticks for a quantity of 1 or if you're lucky enough to find an emergency box, an unlimited supply of flares.
Notes and Remnants

So the main objective to this game is finding "Remnants" the Daylight equivalent of papers from the Slender games. There are two types you can pick up, notes which look like this. They will have a blue glyph and are not needed to complete the level but add a bit more backstory (sometimes)

These red ones are called Remnants and is what will count toward your completion of the level. Usually 5 or 6 are needed to complete a level. It is possible for there to be more than the required amount in a given level, you can pick those up too if you so wish.
Sigils

This is the exit and the entry to the next level but it's locked, you'll need to find the sigil first before it will open.

Sigils are key items that will be at needed after you find all the remnants required and the last thing needed to unlock the way to the next level

They will be found in rooms like this, once you pick it up you can't set it back down and you can't use any flares or glowsticks so it's advised to run and get to that exit

It is possible to find the exit and sigil room before finding all the remnants, the sigil room will be empty until you have found all the remnants, once you have return there and you can proceed, if you've found the exit or sigil they will be marked on your map for easy navigation.
Boxes and Switches

The game doesn't have very many of these to deal with and that's saying much but you should still know about them. For boxes with a rope around them you can push and climb them, not that difficult of a concept to grasp really.

Switches are another rare thing in the game but are required sometimes to progress. Likely you need to activate something that requires the power on and therefore need to explore to find the switch.
The Witch

The main enemy of the game, she likes to pop in and say hi a lot and often without notice, ever see something just out of the corner of your eye? Yeah that's her; don't turn around. (not even joking about that, it happens)

She's a lot more scary than she is dangerous, you can usually hear her coming and as you play you should notice after a bit which noise means she's really close and chasing you or it's just the game trying to psyche you out. Another sign she's near is when your map/phone/PDA thing starts messing up. She likes screaming for attention too.

She's pretty much only a threat if you look at her, ignore her, don't make eye contact, walk backwards or look at the ground and you'll be fine :)

The End?
That's it for this guide, I really enjoyed this game despite some more common negative reviews and opinions about it. I think it showcased the UE4 decently enough, probably could have been better but it is a new engine so I accept this game as just a little tech demo or showcase with still a cool feature and great scares, hopefully this might catch on like Slender did with the twitch command integration.

Have fun :)

~I will attempt to keep this updated as new mechanics or features are introduced to the game or if the Twitch commands are found out~
