Introduction
Everything you need to know about MonMusu Gladiator, in English!

To play the game in English, you will need to use my easy-to-install English localization mod that translates the entire game into English!

Please see the following section in this guide for details.

8/7/2022 - My translations are now in the base game. No need for the mod anymore. This guide is a bit outdated, since there isn't as much reason to maintain it now.
English Mod Installation & Info (NO LONGER NEEDED)

Issues/Notes
  • Press Alt+T in-game to instantly toggle between English/Japanese
  • Some texts have been reworded to a degree to fit space constraints
  • Big Blue description gets cut off a lot
  • A few texts may not fit perfectly
  • "AP Cost" is "AP-Cost" to force it onto 1 line
**POST-GAME STATS SCREEN TRANSLATION NEEDS TO BE ENABLED MANUALLY**

All the lines on the Post-Game Stats screen are technically just one large string of text, instead of multiple separate lines. Thus, one virtually cannot account for every single combination. I am unaware of how to make the translation plugin handle this in a smart way, so it needs to fetch a machine translation from Google, and when it sends it back, each individual stat is overwritten with a proper manual translation pulled locally.

You can enable this behavior by hitting Alt+0 in-game, and changing the "Translator:" dropdown entry to "Google Translate (V2)". The Post-Game Stats will then be translated.

CHOOSING TO ENABLE THIS comes with the quirk that, any text I somehow haven't encountered, like an extremely rare tip or something, will be machine translated (instead of simply remaining untranslated). This also includes new text from game updates, until this mod receives an update.

Interface
Gameplay (overworld)
Your objective is to get through 3 stages composed of 30 spaces each. There is a forced boss fight at the end of each stage.

Each stage is considered a "rank". Thus, you start at Rank 1, and must defeat the Rank 3 boss to win.

Each space takes 1 day of movement. Thus, a full run lasts for 90 in-game days.

On each of your turns, you draw a hand of cards to play from your deck. The number at the top left of each card dictates how many spaces of movement you will be moved forward upon using it. Cards with 0 movement cost allow you to play multiple cards in one turn.

There are multiple types of spaces you can land on:

Red spaces reduce your HP by 20% of its maximum.
Yellow spaces do nothing.
Blue spaces heal you for 20% of your maximum HP.
Purple spaces trigger a random event.
Battle spaces have you battle with the monster on top of them (which will always reward you with new cards). Silver battle spaces will reward an artifact as well, but are more difficult than bronze.
Mizuki's Shop allows you to sell and buy Growth Cards which you currently have copies of in your deck.
Ratte's Shop allows you to buy Artifacts for gold.
Treasure Chests give you a choice between three Artifacts to pick from, which you can reroll for a gold cost.
Towns are a forced stop where Mizuki will give you a free artifact.
Training spots are a forced stop where you can learn a new skill.

Take note that Towns and Training spots are a forced stop. You will stop regardless of how many spaces a card would have normally moved you forward. It can be advantageous to purposefully use high-movement cost cards before a forced stop, to maximize your gains.
Gameplay (combat)
In combat, it is a battle between your monster and the enemy monster. Should your monster be reduced to zero HP, you will lose the run.

Combat happens in real-time, and monsters must spend AP (Action Points) to use their skills.

AP is constantly accumulated over time, and can be seen underneath a monster's health bar.

Some skills require a lot of AP, and sometimes saving up AP to use skills in combination back to back can be advantageous. However, the more AP a monster has, the more damage they will take from attacks.

After defeating an enemy monster, you will always be rewarded with gold and new cards to add to your deck. You will be presented a choice between 2 sets of a varying amount of 3 different card types. If it was a silver battle space, you will receive an Artifact. You can choose to skip receiving any of these, as well as perform rerolls for a gold cost that increases each time.
Attributes
There are six main attributes in the game:
  • Affection
  • HP
  • Strength
  • Resilience
  • Intelligence
  • Willpower

Affection affects how effective a monster's attribute increases are.

HP is the amount of hit-points/health a monster has. Falling to zero leads to defeat.

Strength and Resilience are a monster's physical Offense/Defense.

Intelligence and Willpower are a monster's magical Offense/Defense.
Difficulty Levels
There are eight difficulty levels in the game, selectable when starting a run, ranging from Enjoy, the easiest difficulty, to Challenge 6, the hardest difficulty.

I personally recommend at least Challenge 4 if you are used to playing video games, as the lower difficulties are very lenient with letting you make mistakes. Also the score multiplier is very nice at Challenge 5 and 6!

Enjoy effects:
  • Starting attributes doubled
  • Effects of training doubled
  • Score multiplier - 0.25x
Normal effects:
  • N/A
Challenge 1 effects:
  • Enemy attributes - 1.3x
  • Score multiplier - 1.3x
Challenge 2 effects:
  • Enemy attributes - 1.5x
  • Score multiplier - 1.5x
Challenge 3 effects:
  • Enemy attributes - 1.5x
  • Score multiplier - 2x
  • No more Skill reward after Boss battles
Challenge 4 effects:
  • Enemy attributes - 2x
  • Score multiplier - 3x
  • No more Skill reward after Boss battles
Challenge 5 effects:
  • Enemy attributes - 2x
  • Score multiplier - 5x
  • No more Skill reward after Boss battles
  • No more Artifact reward after Boss battles
Challenge 6 effects:
  • Enemy attributes - 2x
  • Stronger Rank-based attribute increases
  • Score multiplier - 10x
  • No more Skill reward after Boss battles
  • No more Artifact reward after Boss battles

Shiba Inu

Designed & created by Minato Aoi (湊あおい)

Demi-humans who have co-existed alongside humans since long ago. They look like dogs.

Very agile and adaptive, Shiba Inu are said to practice the secret Eastern art of Ninpō.

There are many cases of them becoming lost or abandoned by their human partners, and turning feral.

Starting Artifacts
  • Bone Memento - When training, gain 1.5x the amount of Affection.
  • Lightning Release Scroll - Learn Blade of the Lightning God if possible. Increase chance of inflicting Stun.

Learnable Skills

Child of Dagon

Designed by Tada no Kani (ただの蟹)
Created by Minato Aoi (湊あおい)

Demi-humans brought into existence by worshippers of the octopus-type monster known as Dagon.

While Children of Dagon are not the quickest, once one gets a hold of their target, that target will likely be granted "salvation" soon.

Due to growing up only in control of half their body, their intellectual capability is not so high. Also, they aren't so good with dry places.

Starting Artifacts
  • Intimidating Chain - Upon obtaining this item, HP and Strength are increased by 75.
  • Bouncy Thorns - Nullify any reflect damage received.

Starting Skills

Learnable Skills

Dragonewt

Designed & created by Minato Aoi (湊あおい)

Demi-humans, still yet-to-be-confirmed as more than a myth, that possess properties of both humans and dragons.

Dragonewts are power attackers capable of destroying all around with single, powerful blows brought down by their sizeable weapons.

While they do possess intellectual capability equivalent to a human's, they have seemingly lost their prior memories.

Also, they like eating tasty foods.

Starting Artifacts
  • Dragon's Horn - When training, gain 1.3x the amount of HP and Strength. Gain 0.5x the amount of Resilience and Willpower.
  • Reversed Dragon Scale - Increase damage dealt the lower your skill's accuracy.

Vampire

Designed by Suimii (すいみー)
Created by Minato Aoi (湊あおい)

Demi-humans born in the Nightworld who look similar to humans.

Notable features include sharp fangs and a pale, ghostly face.

Due to relations between the Nightworld and the physical world faltering, it is rare for Vampires to appear before humans.

They specialize in magic attacks fueled by a high intellectual ability, and making use of shortswords with their swift movement.

Also, they have a high self-esteem.

Starting Artifacts
  • Blood Goblet - When training, gain 1.5x the amount of Intelligence. Gain 0.9x the amount of HP.
  • Vampire Dagger - Learn Drain Slash if possible. Increase Absorption effect.

Ostrich

Designed & created by Tako Ika (タコイカ)

Demi-humans whose top half is human, and bottom half a bird species that excels at moving around.

While their tactic of blindly charging over and over again is standard, there is great debate over whether or not it would be stronger to just kick instead.

Despite appearances, their brain is on the small side, and their mental capacity is disappointing.

Starting Artifacts
  • Birdfoot Accessory - Slightly increase AP gain rate.
  • Sun Spear - Increase damage dealt the higher your opponent's AP.

Learnable Skills

Monsters/Skills (2/3)
Big Blue

Designed & created by Tako Ika (タコイカ)

The biggest ocean-dwelling Demi-humans that grow larger the more they eat. They undergo a strict diet for participating in tournaments.

It used to be said that as long as there are Big Blues out at sea, the ocean-dwelling monsters could never face defeat. However, the Big Blues were surprise attacked by a certain other group of ocean-dwelling Demi-humans that heavily disagree with such a sentiment, and many have been captured since hostilities broke out.

While Big Blues have a mature and genuine disposition, they also possess an air of arrogance, believing they could never possibly lose.

Starting Artifacts
  • Whale Meat - When training, gain 1.5x the amount of HP.
  • Twin Dolls - When training, trigger the following effects. ①When Strength is increased, so is Intelligence. ②When Intelligence is increased, so is Strength.

Starting Skills

Learnable Skills

Moby Dick

Designed & created by Tako Ika (タコイカ)

The reason the biggest ocean-dwelling Demi-humans, Big Blues, are feared, lies within the Moby Dicks.

They are rather resilient, enjoy fighting, and both species are strongly territorial.

It would seem that flocks are still fighting even now out in the deep seas.

Also, it has become clear that Moby Dicks are surprisingly easy to raise, and that they seem to consider whoever feeds them as family.

Starting Artifacts
  • Collar of the White Whale - When training, gain 1.15x the amount of HP, Strength, and Intelligence.
  • Sea Deity's Wrath - When HP is at or below 10%, inflict 1.5x damage, and receive 0.5x damage.
Starting Skills
Same as Big Blue.

Learnable Skills
Same as Big Blue.

Lamia

Designed & created by Tako Ika (タコイカ)

Demi-humans whose top half is human, and bottom half a snake.

While there is always an endless amount of aggressive rumors being spread amongst the human world, Lamia are gentle and friendly, warm-blooded creatures.

It seems that squeezing others with one's tail is considered barbaric and taboo, however... Lamia often nap while wrapping themselves lovingly around humans.

Starting Artifacts
  • Lamia Tiara - Upon obtaining this item, Affection is increased by 30.
  • Lamia Tail - Increase damage dealt against charmed or stunned opponents.

Starting Skills

Learnable Skills

Slime

Designed by Futa (ふた)
Created by Minato Aoi (湊あおい)

Mobile jelly-form creatures composed mainly of cell nuclei.

While they look like Demi-humans, Slimes simply mimic a human appearance, and are technically not Demi-humans.

After enveloping and sticking to a victim the Slime has deemed to be food, once the victim runs out of stamina, the Slime slowly digests them.

Slimes are surprisingly agile.

Starting Artifacts
  • Slime Gel - When training, gain 1.3x the amount of Resilience and Willpower.
  • Slime Core - Every time damage is dealt with poison, heal HP.

Learnable Skills

Evileyes

Designed by Yukamaru (ゆかまる)
Created by Minato Aoi (湊あおい)

Rare Demi-humans who possess many eyes.

The eye on their chest is called the "Eye of Magicslaughter", and has brought suffering upon many mages.

From a snake-like organ, Evileyes are able to discharge beams of visible light capable of petrification, disintegration, and more.

The eyes of Evileyes fetch a high price among collectors.

Starting Artifacts
  • Evil Eye - When training, gain 1.7x the amount of Willpower.
  • Eagle Eye - Increase damage against opponents with status ailments.

Designed by Suimii (すいみー)
Created by Minato Aoi (湊あおい)

Plant Demi-humans that always sleep. No matter where, even in the middle of combat, sleeping is the number one priority in their laid-back lifestyle. Their fragrance of nectar and flowers, their breath, their voice - it all possesses a sleep-inducing property, and there is no end to the amount of cases of humans turned into their personal body pillows.

Starting Artifacts
  • Pillow of Sound Sleep - Learn Sleep if possible. Recover HP when sleeping.
  • Large Root - Gain 1.5x HP recovery amount in combat.

Chironex

Designed by Hakusui Riko (白水リコ)
Created by Minato Aoi (湊あおい)

Jellyfish Demi-humans that come from warm oceans. Legend says they were once barmaids, transformed after throwing themselves into the ocean. They have a desire to serve cocktails, using an Artifact that endlessly generates alcohol. However, these cocktails contain an incredibly strong poison, and as such are extremely dangerous. Not only that, Chironex are also deceptive and alpha females. Despite being Jellyfish demi-humans, they are quite nimble.

Growth Cards
After selecting a Monster Girl, you can customize your 16 Starter cards, as well as 12 Normal, and 6 Rare cards, that will drop during the run.

At the start of each turn, a random five cards from your deck will be drawn to your hand, from which you can play them.

All the cards left in your hand at the end of your turn are sent to the Discard pile. Once the Discard pile is full, all cards will be shuffled back into your deck.

The number at the top left of each card is how many spaces forward you will move upon using it. Cards with a 0 mean you can use multiple of them in a single turn before moving. Managing your movement optimally is a major factor in success.

You can gain new cards for your deck by defeating other monsters. At the end of each fight, you will be able to choose from 2 sets of a varying amount of 3 different card types.

Unlike your Starter cards, the new cards you can obtain will be destroyed on use, as stated by the "Destroy" text at the bottom of their description.

For anyone confused by some images having randomly gone missing, this is because of a bug with Steam guides that has been reported for years that Steam clearly doesn't care to fix.

This is the second time this has happened, and is a pain in the ass to fix (I have to rename, reupload, and reformat every affected image). I'm not wasting my time doing redundant busywork because a multi-billion dollar corporation can't write functional code for something so trivial.

Any furthers update to the guide will happen after/if it becomes a PDF.

I have completely translated the game to English and made an unofficial mod so you can actually play it in English now! I'll be updating this guide at some point, but here's a video of the mod in action with details in the description: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w99rt1Adw-A
