Basically, there are 4 classes in Villagers and heroes(v&H)

1) Warrior
2) Wizard
3) Hunter
4) Priests

Each of these classes have their own advantages, disadvantages, spells, feats, and gear.
Each one has its own unique playstyle which can be customized according to your needs.

The four classes originated from the Legendary four who were: Marat the Warrior, Calypso the Wizard, Voltan the Priest and Celestia the Hunter.

Following in these great leaders' footsteps, you'll begin an epic journey across the realms developing yourself and defending the realms from evil forces that seek to destroy the peace and harmony that was ushered by the Legendary Four.

Choosing a Class
When you first log into the game, you'll be directed to a screen that looks like this:

Here, you can select any one of the four classes.

The four classes will show 2 options, light/dark, defender/berserker type, ice/fire.
It doesn't matter what you choose, you'll end up with the same toon.

Furthermore, you can have 3 toons per account. That means, you can experience 3 classes. If you create a character and you're not so happy with that, you don't need to delete that yet. You can try other classes too.

And, there is no item shop object that can grant you a fourth toon for an account. The developers are thinking about making a fourth toon. I don't know what is their decision on that yet.

Back to the topic, the four classes are listed below.
Warrior
"The warrior relies on sharpness of blade and strength of arm"

Basically, being a warrior means, you'll have pretty good defense, good attack, and good reserve of health.

Warriors can be categorized into 2 basic types:

1) Tank
2) Berserker (zerk)

A tank is preferred (and a good addition) by most parties to act as an anvil while the others hammer their foes.
The tank type will have a protection shield, that means, high (probably the highest) armor, basic attack and a high health.
They'll draw enemies towards them while the wizards and hunters kill enemies.
That is why, having a high defense and health is important.
Furthermore, a tank can solo many zones 1/2 levels higher than his (provided you have the right gear an you're using good combat buffs). But soloing with a tank can be slow due to lesser DPS (Damage per Second)

A zerk type warrior is one who abandons the shield to take up heavy damage. This type of warrior has considerably lower defense but a high health and high attack. This kind of a warrior is a good addition to parties too as they can kill foes quickly.
Soloing 1/2 levels higher than a zerk's level can be difficult since a zerk has low defense.

If your playstyle is slow and steady, then, the tank is the right option for you.
If you like to smash the foes with little regard for your health, you can use zerk type.

You don't have to stick to these 2 types of warriors. You can customise your warrior to be a mix of both types using various spells, feats and gear.
Wizard
"Wizards call upon the elemental powers of fire and ice to smite their enemies"

Being a wizard means having a good array of various heavily damaging spells, high spirit and good health. It should be noted that wizards cannot use physical shields.

Wizards can be categorized into:

1) Fire
2) Ice

A fire wizard uses fire damage to hit foes. These fire spells cause extensive damage to enemies and kill it quickly.
But a fire wizard has low defense. This makes him pretty squishy if you choose to run zones above your level. But there are spells which can help you wizard evade monsters.
A fire wizard is a great addition to parties since he/she can hit a target with heavy damage but risks the chance of drawing aggro towards themselves due to high damage.
They also have large number of Area of Damage spells which can decimate many foes with a single strike.

An ice wizard basically has ice spells. These ice spells, in addition to doing pretty good damage, slow down enemies which can give you more time to kill them.
One difference b/w fire and ice wizard is, an ice wizard can summon an ice shield which can give additional defense for a short period of time. But the damage done by an ice wizard is less than that of a fire wizard.
Ice wizards can help in a party by using slowing spells and AOE slowing and damage spells.

Additionally, both wizards can heal themselves.

If your playstyle is like, poke 2 eyes while getting 1 eye poked, you are suited for fire wizard (well, you can repair that poked eye later by using spells)
If you want to run cautiously, preventing as much damage as you can, you need to go for ice wizard.

Many wizards in the game use a combination of fire and ice to first slow down enemies and then hitting them hard with fire spells. You can customize your wizard in many ways.
Hunter
"The hunter is the spy of the forest: fast, silent, well-informed and deadly"

Being a hunter means, having an arsenal of shots that can have various kinds of effect and a long range.
Hunter too cannot use a shield, not even an ice shield which wizards can use.

Hunters need not be categorised into categories.

Hunters have a great ability that other classes do not have: Sneak
They can sneak past enemies upto a certain level. This means, hunters are great solo players.
Hunters have good health and spirit, but like wizards, their defense is low. This is outmatched by the range they have.
They have the highest range in the game and have various means to increase their range.
With such a huge range, and a slowing shot, a hunter can kill almost any enemy that comes to attack him/her.
Hunters can deal physical and poison damage. Poison damage is a great way to leech away the enemy's health over a period of time. Additionally, hunters have various buffs, including healing (though not as powerful as wizards or priests) which they can use on both themselves and their party members. They make a great addition to parties for their long range and a couple of heavily damaging shots.

If you like to solo zones without help of others, and prefer long range fighting, hunter is the best option for you.
Priests
"Priests provide aid to their friends and call down curses upon their enemies"

Being a priest means you'll have great healing and shielding abilities.

Priests are of two types:

1) Holy
2) Shadow

Holy priests are the ones that have curing, healing (note that curing and healing are different), and shielding spells.
They are , in my opinion, the best addition to a party that is running through a zone higher than its average level.
Holy priests can use both individual and mass healing spells. They have the greatest healing ability of all the four classes.
They can also use shielding spells. That means, they can shield their wizard or tank from damage for a certain period of time. Also, mass shielding can be used.
Additionally, they can use cures against spider/rat poisons, etc.

A shadow priest is one who uses shadow spells to do heavy damage on his enemies. They dont have healing ability but have an arsenal of dark spells that inflict various types of curses, damage on enemies.
They can curse enemies to take more damage too.

(I don't know much about shadow priest as I've not played it till now)

Both priests can use a shield. Though they can use a shield, they are a bit squishy since they have lesser defense than a warrior and lower damage than a wizard. But the healing and shielding spells compensate for these disadvantaged. Furthermore, a priest has various ways to increase his/her defense enabling the priest to be able to solo appropriate level zones.

If you like to run in a party with friends, healing them and feeling as the life saviour :P. then, priest is your option.
Conclusion
As I said before, you can have 3 toons. You can try one class and see if it suits you, if not, you can always come back and create a new one.

If you want to customize your toon to suit your playing style, there are a lot of experienced players who are more than willing to help you in-game. Just send them a mail asking for advise.

I know some on US1 server. I'll list their names here. If anyone listed is not O.K with their names being here, please tell me and I'll remove it.
If you have any doubts, contact me on US1 as bm122. Send a mail and I'll reply

You can have additional character slots by logging into a different server. For example, if you fill all slots on the US server 1, you can log into US server 2 and have three more slots.
