What are trade scams? Trading scams are undoubtedly one of the worst things that can happen to you on Steam. There are many ways to cheat, such as account hijacking via a phishing link, adding suspicious accounts to your friends list, etc. Ways of cheating 1. Phishing (fake Steam login page) ~ A random user sends you a link to a trading page that looks legitimate or asks you to join their team and log in to the site with your Steam login credentials. 2. Item Swap Scam ~ You receive an intriguing offer from a random user and agree to a trade when the user submits a trade offer contains an item that looks exactly like the item they offered but has a different value (usually the item costs less than cent on the market). 3. Hidden Object Scam ~ You are given a random trade offer that contains some junk items in exchange for valuable skins. Without looking back at the trade, you would most likely accept it, but little you know is that among the junk items they asked for was a very valuable item from your inventory. 4. Duplicate items ~ The user will add you and propose to duplicate items, you will be asked to exchange items, and when you do, you will be blocked. 5. Item Verification Scam ~ A random user wants you to trade an item for "verification". The user will give you an excuse saying your items have been cheated / cheated and then ask you to exchange your items with him to check if the items are "clean". As always, you are out of luck after replacing items.
