Why OC7
While this software suffers from the high-price, bugs and not great support comparing to its competitors, it does have some pros that out-shines others.

  • Small size: only around 50 mbs compare to Clip Paint Studio's 3 GB
  • Timelapse: Currently (as far as I know), only this and CPS offers this feature. Otherwise you will need to use OBS or other capturing software.
  • Pretty good interface if you customise it well, very similar to Photoshop's interface and shows brush's shape and flow. (I personally prefer OC7's interface comparing to Krita's one, especially the brush library interface)
  • Very unique and good canvas manipulate interface, does take some time to get used to tho.
  • Steam's playtime if you want to brag about how much time you spent on drawing lmao.

Recommended workspace
I have a decently big display tablet, so my workspace is relatively cluttered. Here I will show the workspace I use personally and a more simpler one.

First, disable the "hand control" since it will show up anyway when you hold space to move the canvas.

In case you want to reposition your workspace, just select your workspace and it will be repositioned accordingly.
How to blur
If you read the reviews and discussions, you will see people complaining about the blur tool being too CPU intensive.
While this is true, many other painting software also suffers from this problem but not as bad as this.
But there are two ways around this.
.
.
.
How to use blur brush
The "correct" way to use a blur tool is to "tap" on the places to blur instead of drawing on it. But first of all, let's configure the default blur brush first (or you can clone a new one if you want).
  • Click on the gear icon for the blur tool (soft or hard depending what you want), then disable sensitivity on brush size.

Let's say I want to blur the "openCanvas" text, I just need turn up the size of the brush and tap over the text. Setting the effect to around 50 is the best imo.
.
.
.
That's what it looks like after tapping with the blur brush. My CPU is pretty bad btw (FX-8350) and it is still acceptable.

Alternatively, you can just select the area you want to blur and apply the blur filter
OC7 is not recognising my tablet
Try changing the driver option in OC7 (bottom right corner OR in Edit --> Preferences), or update your tablet driver.
My brush is not where it supposes to be / Offset issue
If you tablet is not mapped to the whole monitor or some other mapping issues, you can always change from Tablet Coordinates to OS coordinates instead. You can permanently set it in Edit --> Preferences.

OC7 is prompting an error, what can I do?
This is one of the worst things about OC7, normally you can't really do much about it when it prompts an error. Sometimes it will corrupt the save file as well even if you save the file often. Here are some things you can do:

  • Use save-as (ctrl-shift-s) and save it as a new file as often as possible. I normally save up to 5 (different versions) files for my artwork.

  • Search the error code (err=[some number]) and use google translate to see what the developer says about it on their forum. Normally if your file is corrupted, you can try to send it to the developer and ask (nicely) for them to fix it. But don't have too high hopes for it lol.
OC7 is not working, what can I do
Earlier, I encountered random stuttering every second when I use the brush. I had no idea why or how it was happening. But I found out how to fix it. This might help if OC7 is showing gray screen or not working. Below are a few options you can try to fix OC7:
.
.
  • Change the language from English to Japanese (wait for the download to finish) back to English. This effectively does a reset to the program. (Steam Library --> right click on OC7 --> properties --> Language)

  • Use the Japanese version and see if it works. The Japanese version is slightly more up to date than the english version for some reason.

  • Close OC7 --> Delete C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\PGN\openCanvas7

  • Try to uninstall OC7 --> Delete OC7 registry (Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\portalgraphics)
    --> and install OC7 back
Good Luck, Happy drawing
