How to kill knights in very hard mode and inferno mode without flourish
By mkjioz
Basically, how to kill knights without using flourish, primarily because I have no idea how the timing on flourish works.

The Technique
The gist of this guide is basically a how to on how to kill the hardest enemies in this game by a long shot. Tougher than any of the bosses besides Suzuka pretty much.

There is exactly one decent way to actually do this if you're not capable of flourishing that I have found. Divine Wind > Tsumugi.

2 Tsumugis that come as the final attack after a divine wind barely puts a Very Hard Knight right before bloodied, it will take 2-4 hits to knock him into it, but from there it's easy zanshin spam until you get 3 petals and kill him.

The problem is, you cannot Divine Wind > Tsumugi if the Divine Wind is interrupted.

Which it always is.

Now we're at the actual key to the method. Do not shoot the Divine Wind at the knights, but instead the opposite direction of the knights. Hold the direction towards the knight however while attempting to execute the Tsumugi and you will dash into range of them to successfully hit them with the Tsumugi.

You'll need to do this several times in a row though, expecially on the knight only stages. After you manage to hit them with the Tsumugi, they'll be stunned. However, attacking them is probably suicide since anything past the first hit on a knight is blockable by them. If you try to take this opportunity to immediately Divine Wind in opposite direction > Tsumugi back at them again, there is actually a pretty decent chance of them blocking it.

So it's best to just run away from them in a circle around the arena and do it after they start chasing again.

On VH 4-4, you will not have enough katana meter to do the entire round like this. There's a total of 12 knights(4 waves of 3), it is vital that you actually spend some time hitting the knights with melee combos once they're bloodied before actually finishing them off with zanshin. Not until the katana gauge is full, but just like half a meter to a meter of comboing. It raises the amount of katana gauge recovered when you finally do zanshin.

The final thing to keep in mind is camera manipulation so the knights do not attack you. Basically do not point it at them ever and don't dilly dally too much or they'll attack anyways. You should be facing it where you're running which is a precise circle around the edge of the arena. Once you think the knights are at the appropriate range(might take a bit of practice to get the timing down) perform the Divine Wind away from them > Tsumugi back at them technique. If you're lucky, you'll hit every single knight stunning them.

After that immediately run away from them and repeat once or twice depending on whether you're capable of landing the last few blows to get them to bloodied state yourself.

The camera manipulation is super super important on inferno mode. I have no idea how to dodge a knight's attack consistently, especially their consecutive side dash strikes. Their tracking on their normal combo is also brutal.

Thankfully, Inferno mode Knights only take 1 Tsumugi to be bloodied. It is possible to beat Inferno Mode 4-4 without them attacking once if you camera manipulate well and are lucky with their grouping.

Hopefully this guide helps you in beating Very Hard and Inferno mode if you lack the ability to flourish on command like I do.

THERE'S A HARDER DIFFICULTY THAN VERY HARD!?

This strategy is great. I managed to smack down 4-4 with this. Can I offer a tip that made it a little easier for me?

When I first tried this method, I would run around the ring, then point the camera directly toward the outside of the ring to charge up the holy technique, so all the knights were in the opposite direction. Then I would turn to unleash the Tsumugi a full 180 degrees, to the 6 o'clock position. This worked about half the time, but for the other half, the knights would land a hit just too soon.

So, I modified it. Instead of pointing the camera directly outside the ring, I would point it parallel (tangent) to the ring perimeter (so the knights should be directly left or right). Then, to unleash the Tsumugi, I would aim 90 degrees to my 3 or 6 o'clock position. This worked more like 3/4 of the time; maybe even better, but I quickly won after starting this.

This is a very great idea for people who don't like Flourish. On Inferno I found it better to try and get better at using Flourish though... the key is to realize you're most likely trying to Flourish too early, at least that was my problem until I figured it out, so unless your reflexes are terrible I think you have the same problem. Try to use it as late as possible and you'll find the right timing. My preferrances are:
- For Suzuka, block her dash and ranged attacks and use Flourish on her jump attacks.
- For the final boss, I preferred running/dodging most of her attacks, only blocking the first 4 strikes of her 5hit combo to flourish the last
- For Knights, I was only able to pull off a Flourish on their very first strike after they dash right in your face (4hit combo into dash)
As far as everything else is concerned, I'd always recommend spamming holy moves and kiting over Flourish if you're not confident, at least on Inferno. :P

@HyôXx That's pretty good technique, but thankfully I have (had) everything in the game and didn't need to kill her fast on the higher difficulties. I'd rather play safe and get the 100% florishes than risk a death because I'm not confident on the timing

@everyone else. So, I had the footage, but forgot why, and have since formatted my PC. I'm so sorry :'(
If I pick this up again when I get bored I'll do screengrabs again, but I lost all my save data and don't want to start again.

Don't run, try to do flourish at every attack, its like that now I'm able to do it with all her attacks (except when she throw the blades just block =/) when she attacks you from the ground if you succeed the flourish don't move because you are invincible during the animation and move cancel it.(press guard cancel it as well)
By the way I consider the combo as one attack, train yourself to do a flourish on the 4th strike and the last, in all mode she will bleed so in one attack she loose 20% of her health with just two hits.

Erik von Darkmoor- I hate loose more than anything, but I think die in this game is not loose because its thanks to my dead I force myself to learn it and finally survive.

For the classic enemies watch the topic How to play in inferno difficulty , One guy write the best technique to do versus Very Hard and Inferno mode during the wave

I can land it on Demon Suzuka when she uses her spin and on the last slash of her combo. I just run away from her for the first 3.

I don't risk it on other attacks because fuck V.Hard. I'd rather just avoid it entirely than risk the death haha.

Ohh, I didn't know that - Thanks for the tip, Mkjioz, saves me from having to farm 100k SP twice

Erik von Darkmoor - I've been trying to practice on Easy Mode Stage 5 Suzuka / Demon Suzuka; It can both get me a fast 2k~ SP per restart for the costumes, and I can get ready to Flourish for the actual VH last fight (I beat the first boss without problems... I had more problems on the dang mobs before the boss :( ) I got it pretty well on Suzuka, but damn to god how I can't seem to manage to get it right on the Demon Suzuka...
Eleven Inches Unbuffed. 24 Jun, 2014 @ 3:43pm
Stage 3 Suzuka is actually the best place to learn the timing (I have it down as my main boss-killer for Suzuka and Demon now :3). It's still really hard to use on small mobs, Esp. on VHard and up (Too many enemies, if you stand still to try and time one you'll get #rekt.

I'll record some footage this weekend of me fighting Suzuka and the Demon, then get a friend to render and upload it.

Also, @Wavingyukkureimu. The reason you manipulate the camera is because off-screen enemies attack less. It's noticable when you have 20-30 bloody blues/reds on screen at once dashing and throwing shit at you :3

Basically point the camera away from the knights. The enemies in the game all have a heavily decreased chance of attacking if your camera doesn't actually have them in sight. Actually controlling the camera to do that is kind of a problem though if you're not using a controller. Also, Graceland, you can save, but one of the costumes, save in a different slot, then reload the original save and buy the other costume to get both achievements. Both costumes stay unlocked too.
