Greatest mods on the face of the earth!
There are so many great mods out there. Glitch mods, joke mods, character mods, stage mods...all sorts of mods!
Here's a list of some pretty great mods I've played. I will get more mods, and add them here if I like them enough.
Pretty good mods (and a few ridiculous ones)
These are the mods that I've tried, and liked enough to put them here. I examine each mod seperately, and closely. These are opinions, so if you do not like these mods, that's okay in my book.

#1. fxpipeline renderer

While it doesn't change anything, it boosts framerate (a wee bit), and supposedly improves graphics. I haven't seen any major graphical differences, but in my eyes, it's good to use. You need the unleashed shaders for it to work though, and you can get those shaders by downloading the Unleashed Project. No download link.

This screenshot here is what happens when you use fxpipeline without the unleashed shaders.

#2. Lightfield Generations v.3

Lightfield Generations comes from an old Sonic Unleashed project back in 2008. It took about five years to develop. It would generate a point of origin(s) for light to be created. Then, light would bounce off everything, causing real-time lighting and shading, as well as angle changing shadows, for the best graphical experience. In the main game, Sonic Generations has a shadow that always stays under Sonic, looking surreal. But with the lightfield mod, shadows, colors and light blend everything together. A must-have!
-Also, now that I notice, I can't find a download for this mod anywhere. Even I don't remember where I originally got it. Then again, lightfield was created by SEGA, so they could be responsible.

#3. The Unleashed sonic model mod

This mod changes Sonic's model to the Sonic Unleashed one, with the original animations. Personally, I prefer this model because it is smoother, and the waiting animations are cooler. I also prefer the running animation. (note: it does not come with Jason Griffith's voice or the unleashed -styled physics. Now, all that (plus a bag of chips) came with the Unleashed Ultimate pack v2. But due to a happenning, the mod is no more. Sorry.
Just the model: {LINK REMOVED}

#4. The Unleashed Project (stage mod)

Truth be told, this was my very first mod. And I love the hell out of it. While the original Sonic Unleashed will probably be more enjoyable, the Unleashed project has to be the best mod I've ever played. It comes with it's own (amazing) hub world, remastered textures, and music by the great Falk himself, as well as....no werehog. In fact, I think most of my Sonic Generations screenshots are of this mod. Wow. Other info and download links here

#5. Melponterations

In my opinion, this mod is very well done. The remixed music is awesome, and the level design is fairly original - but I'm not crazy about it, though. It feels a bit too open, and the whole stage is a bottomless pit. You need a bit of skill to master it, which is good. A good mod to try, but not the best. I love the effort they put into it though. You can download it here. Click "download" next to where it says "mirrors".

#6. Sonic Generations: Episode Metal

This mod was recommended to me by a friend of mine, Mob slayer gaming (go check out his profile), and I thank him for that. This mod switches out characters and voices, most noticibly, Sonic(s) himself. You get a beautifully imported mod (that I think was from Sonic 4 Episode II), for modern Sonic, and for classic Sonic, the model of classic metal Sonic from in-game. all grunts and "take thats" have been replaced with beeps and blorps, for a really cool experience, much, much better than the Episode Metal dlc fom Sonic 4. And it's got an unbeatable price: free. Download {LINK REMOVED}. The important stuff is in "Version 2.75".

#7. Sonic Adventure Generations

This mod is definitely one of my favorites! I truly admire the hard work, sweat, and hours of restless nights put into this mod! There are a bunch of secrets and easters for your enjoyment, and soooo many multiple pathways. Each stage is several times larger than it's original counterpart, most likely to accommodate Modern Sonic's blazing speed. Each stage is also as long (and as difficult) as Sonic Unleashed's stages. So that means running around these levels for up to four minutes! There is plenty of challenge, for those looking for a more difficult mod, and the level design is SO large and SO open, with SO many different paths to take, I'm sure I'll be discovering new things in this mod 'till 2020. Seriously, if you thought Sonic Adventure was open, Sonic Adventure Generations multiplies that by ten! A great mod, with great music and great level design. A great mod!
Downloads are here, and more info is here

#8. Sweet Mountain act 1

This mod is awesome. A perfect port of the original (including popcorn!), and includes it's own hub stage entrance, with yacker as a 'friend', and complete with its own theme. The gameplay is exactly the same as before, missing the giant candy rockets. Like many other stage imports, it lacks many shadows from the original game, but that's alright. Worthy of the "Pretty good mod" award. Oh and don't use fxpipeline shaders for this mod. Download {LINK REMOVED}.

#9. Wave Ocean (by paraxade0)

Now this one is really awesome. It isn't just a stage import. It isn't a carbon copy like the Unleashed project (which is still good btw), It is just...awesome. Packed with it's own hub world, and some great hub music, we got the original stage from '06. I, personally, think the level design of the original wave ocean was great. Multiple pathways, open enviroment, whales...but the broken physics, glitches, and sonic's overall slowness made it a mediocre stage. With the high-speed sonic, great physics, and no glitches whatsoever, you can now play wave oean the way it truely was meant to be! The stage also has shadows for all of the structures, so it doesn't look glarey. You even get original floating danger signs! I reccommend this one wholly. Get it here![mega.co.nz]
Even more pretty great mods!
While I think Sonic Generations by itself is a great game, mods only make it greater. In the words of Mr. T, "I pity the fools who got the console versions!". Mods just make everything better. Although I think you should beat the game before you start getting mods. Anyway, continuing the list of the greatest mods we've played!

#10. Super Sonic Generations

This is a pretty rad one. Like the Episode Metal mod, it comes in multiple parts, this time being four. If you don't know yet, Most (or all, I'm not sure) mods are compressed in the form of .zip files, which require an extraction tool to "unzip" them, such as WinZip, WinRar and 7Zip.
By JoeTEStrikesBack, this mod allows you to replace the NPC models with the "Super" and "Hyper" forms for each character. Characters without super forms (Amy, Rouge, Dr. Eggman and Metal Sonic) get other model changes, Amy gets her classic design, Rouge gets her outfit from Sonic Heroes, Modern Eggman gets his Sonic Adventure 2 alternate constume, and Metal Sonic becomes Neo Metal Sonic (also from Heroes). Your base form is now Super Sonic, and the Super Sonic skill is replaced by a "Hyper" skill. Thankfully, this skill not only turns you into Hyper Sonic, but it only consumes 1 ring per second, and makes you go slightly faster. The hud is changed, and one of the .zip mods disables the stupid Super Sonic "autopilot" move. It also comes with a full save file, so you can easily see all of the artwork, songs, and unlock all of the moves. (Don't worry, so long as you use the "enable save file redirection" feature in SonicGMI, your original save file will remain untouched. There are ten pre-made skill sets for both Super Sonics that go beyond the 100 point limit (and, personally, in the main game, you should've been able to unlock more point space for skills). Classic Sonic can even use some of Modern Sonic's skills as well, and vice-versa. However, As the normal Super Sonic, you don't lose rings, nor are you invulnerable. That's what Hyper Sonic is for. Don't fall into the bottomless pits, of course.

For more information, check out the original ModDB page.

Here's the link to the Mediafire download page. If you don't have a premium account, you'll just have to download each .zip file, the four at the bottom of the list, one at a time. {LINK REMOVED}

#11. Sonic Boomerations

This mod is pretty simple. No NPC changes, no level changes, just a simple character mod. This mod is called "Boomerations", because the character model changes to fit the design of Sonic in the upcoming tv show and video game, Sonic Boom. They did a good job, what with the extra spiky spikes, and sports tape, but I think they could've done better with the face. It doesn't blink, and there is no mouth. Maybe in a future update we'll get those!
You can download it {LINK REMOVED}.

#12. Dark Sonic (by Ultimatedarkman)

This mod is great. The effort shows, and I just overall like it. It only changes the Sonic models though, not the other models, but it's still really cool. The boost animation makes a giant Sonic Boom, and the homing attack animations have been switched with the trick animations (which is kinda cool). It's a simple mod, but still pretty cool.

#13. Shadic (also by Ultimatedarkman)

Shadic is a fusion of Shadow and Sonic, most likely inspired by the Dragon Ball Z fusion of Vegeta and Goku. This mod is jam-packed with quality! You can really see the effort that went into this. The entire model is awesome, and going super turns you into Hyper Shadic (complete with four extra spikes!). Also, the Shadow rival battle is replaced with Nazo (a mysterious character who was once supposed to appear in Sonic X) I think the voice is also ripped from Dragon Ball, because it sounds like Vegito. It's a fitting voice, but imagining Sean Schemmel voicing Sonic and Christopher Sabat as Shadow is kinda weird. Up there with the unleashed model and SS Generations, this is an awesome character mod.

#14. Unleashed Flavors

Since Lightfield Generations has mysteriously disappeared, I decided to add a new shader mod to substitute. This one actually might be even better. This mod is called 'Unleashed Flavors' because it takes advantage of Sonic Unleashed's graphics engine, and because the mod itself comes in 4 "flavors". The first is for lightshafts. For those who don't know what that is, It makes...lightshafts. Sorry about being vague, but it's hard to explain. Imagine it's a REALLY cloudy day. And one small hole in the clouds lets a beam of light in. It's kinda like that. So that means that bordering every cloud in the sky are small rays of light. This feature also makes shadows. Same principle as before. For example. In Sky Sanctuary Act 2, when in the air, you can see under the floating structures. With this mod, you can see there is a large shadow cast by these structures. Wow. That was a lot. What a mouthful. The next three 'flavors' are easier to explain.
Flavor 2 combines the previous flavor with aspects of Lightfield Generations. You get the lightshafts, and directional shadows. Very Realistic.
Flavor 3 is a gag. It edits the contrast, making everything Dark and dank, while also editing the saturation, so colors make your eyes bleed. Interesting.
Flavor 4 is just the shadows. Easier for your GPU/CPU to handle, but not as realistic.
This one is pretty great and Should be a part of your collection.
Notice the shiny blurs. That's the lightshafts.
Notice how Sonic's shadow is angled. That's the lightfield shadows.
(Note: You MUST use Unleashed shaders for this mod!)
You can download the whole mod {LINK REMOVED}. As always, you'll need a .zip extracter, and you'll need to extract the mod into your dedicated Sonic Generations mod folder. It's just one mod, and you'll be able to activate/deactivate each flavor in SonicGMI. Have fun!
A whole lot more mods!
#15. Sonic Graphics Overhaul by SmashnicGC

I was pretty bummed out when Lightfield just disappeared into thin air, but apparently, it has been resurrected from it's graphically beautiful grave. Under the new name 'Sonic Graphics Overhaul', it is currently being worked on by SmashnicGC. While I haven't noticed any major differences, Smashnic states that there have been a few tweaks, including bloom and color correction tweaks, motion blur on all stages, and a few manually placed lightshafts here and there to make it look pretty. I have no pictures of it yet, because my Hard Drive is acting up, so I'm waiting a while to get new mods.

there's a mod out there that changes classic sonic's physics to be closer to Sonic 2's. "Classic Sonic Improvement Mod" by Showin. plays a lot better.
