Hidden option for japanese voice

The game actually has japanese voices installed, that you can enable with couple minutes of tinkering.

  1. Get a hex editor that can edit .exe files (yes, you're going to edit game's .exe). I think HxD is pretty popular on Windows (at least it has been around for a while)
  2. Open the raiden5_one.exe with your editor (and take a backup from the file if you want). You can find .exe by right clicking the game in Steam's library -> Properties -> Local files -> browse
  3. Search %VOICE_LANGUAGE%
  4. There should be 6 results. The thing you're looking for is the last one
  5. I think the line read jpn.eng.%VOICE_LANGUAGE% (or it was eng.jpn)
  6. Now change that eng to jpn and save. It should read jpn.jpn%VOICE_LANGUAGE%. I have no idea what the another jpn does (fallback?)

Pretty sure distributing the .exe falls into the same category as distributing the whole game, so the answer is no. Besides the process is just simple as rewriting one en to jp with some common program (which beats downloading dubious .exe, that you should scan for viruses).

It is extremely dumb. I suspect Japanese audio files aren't really supposed to be in English version.

When older Japanese titles have been released in Steam, there has been issues, because Japanese voice acting wasn't licensed globally and covered only Japanese release. I suspect that in Raiden's case also the Japanese option shouldn't really be there, but the developers took the easiest way and just dumped both voice files with the game, instead of the pain of maintaining two versions.

This just seams dumb not to have an option in the audio settings menu to choose the jp or en voices.

Please tell if anything breaks. I tested the game on japanese only for 2 hours :viridian:
