Initial contact with a facility: (The 4 W's)
- Who you are calling. (Ground / Tower / Center / TRACON)
- Who you are. (Callsign)
- Where you are. (Position, Current Altitude, [Altitude that you are ascending or descending to if on a climb or descend.])
- What are your intentions. (Ex: Flight following, taxi to runway in use, or landing.)
IFR Clearance: (CRAFT)
- Clearance Limit (Destination airport, weather, delays.)
- Route (Your filed route of flight.)
- Altitude (It's usually an initial altitude followed by a second altitude to expect afterwards.)
- Frequency (The frequency that you will use after take-off which is usually TRACON or Center.)
- Transponder (Your transponder code.)
I would definitely use some paper and a pen/pencil for this^
Happy flying!
