yeah I know what you mean Hansen, and I won't argue with it - these ships are mostly used either as a temporary throw-away bridging until you can afford to fit out a better fleet, or simply as a golden goose just for harvesting seasoned timbers. If you think about it, the costs for seasoning 300 logs of live oak are absolutely insane, both in terms of gold escudos, tools and other resources, not to mention the time you'd have to spend for trade-runs, let alone the seasoning process for huge stacks itself!
But since scuppering these ships for resources every 24 hrs is a game of chance anyway and the prices for some of these dlcs almost four times as high as the game itself, I'd say it's a fair balance at least for those who can't play as much yet want to support their guild steadily and therefore need a faster processing of valuable resources :-)

To be honnest, I find it a little like cheating, but I know ( and the developers know it too ) that manny players do so. I'm told, the developer dont stop the possibillity, because they fear not to sell DLC-ships if they do.
