I know this is referring to IRL econ, but at least in the game, larger distances mean more cargo waiting for the train to pick up, it's a feedback loop somewhat. Train pick up big amounts of item, train leaves, item refills, train comes back with a full shipment waiting for it

Who in their right mind would pay ten times as much to get dairy by train from across the world when they literally have a dairy farm a truck ride's distance away? It's like paying $1000 for a Wendy's hamburger when there's literally a Wendy's across the street selling them for $10.

Well, after all you have logistic company. More transportation cost, more money they pay to you.

That's why you would pay 200 000 times more for your bread at a grocery store if said bread traveled around the moon in a spaceship, burning through millions of dollars in rocket fuel in the process
