Well you need to return to the lobby at least, but it seems ticky because I lost some progress the second time I tried it.

Well another thing that I discovered is that you don't loose your progress in a level if you leave after reaching a checkpoint.When you return to that level you respawn at the checkpoint. How convenient!

It's also the home button. I went into the configuration menu to check the control. I never had any in-game prompt and hitting every button I could think of didn't work. Until then I just alt-f4 the game when I was done, often after starting or finishing a level so my tower progress wasn't lost. How I wish I'd known sooner.
