When going to the console, your hand will hover at the bottom button and there is NO explanation anywhere how to get past this.

Don't click any button and move your mouse a lot forward, it should switch to the top button. Press the top button twice and the trainwagon should be set correctly to enter!

Also, just 1 press of the up button is enough.

tbf this is at least the 2nd time this design is presented to the player. The 1st one being just after we enable the power, it is a set of 2 buttons to switch on or off the alarm.
By the time you get to the platform, you know how to use this kind of 2 button device.
