This is a bit unintuitive since the lasers just shoot in its general vicinity but you can remove tiny flecks of rust without damaging the part if you mouse over it precisely and use fast clicks.
Buy CH/06/12/ . Lots of them. 2/2/2 material for a base price of 2750, even cheaper if you got your rep up or bump into a discount. With this trick you can save money by creating every part greater than 4000 credit (5000 if you cannot get the CH/06/12/ down to 2000) since you will need at most 4 material of one type for any crafting.
p.s. on a future update can you make it where you can go in the shop store anytime and it shows the requirements for the next shop equipment
