Make an Xbox account

First you will need to make an Xbox LIVE account, do so here[www.xbox.com] and make sure your password isn't over 16 characters and you don't enable 2 factor authentication.

Download the latest GFWL files

Since the servers that the GFWL install files were on have since been taken down, you need to manually download the necessary files.

First, run the regular GFWL setup from here[drive.google.com].
After the setup finishes, download the latest GFWL files from here[drive.google.com] and extract them into C:/Windows/SysWOW64 (these are the latest official files and have not been modified in any way, if you're nervous about putting things into SysWOW64 feel free to put it into virustotal first)

Remove any previous GFWL hacks

Check your game folder for an xlive.dll, if it exists then remove it. Some ASI loaders might also conflict with GFWL, if your game doesn't start after installing it then try removing dinput8.dll as well if it exists

Get in-game

Start the game as usual, press Home to open the GFWL overlay. Log into your Xbox LIVE account, enter your serial key and wait approximately 10 minutes for the activation to complete. DO NOT PRESS ESCAPE DURING THIS PROCESS AS IT WILL FREEZE YOUR GAME. Afterwards, you should be able to select LIVE from the game's main menu and use Player Match to find a lobby or Create Player Match to create one.

Join the FlatOut Joint discord[discord.gg], you can find people to play MP and/or help with modding the game

Ok so you update the gfwl and successfully sign in to the game. Sometimes it will allow you to join certain players, but whenever joining other/friend's game, the error "game session is no longer available" can still pop out.
In such case you are out of luck. It seems like the joining is dependent on your NAT type - some players are joinable, some aren't.

I was unable to join my pal from the same city, but could join some russian dude, thousands of km away. You never know...
