Tips & Tricks to become a better Hunter
By Miskude and 1 collaborators
Doomsday Hunters has a lot of hidden features, or little unknown facts that aren't well explained in the game. This guide serves as a central point to bring all these things together and understand the game better. With this knowledge the game will shine even more!

Preface
This guide doesn't serve as an encyclopedia, but more as compilation of general tips, tricks and overlooked features that the game has to offer. It also contains some glitches and exploits, but those will be at the very bottom in case you don't want to make use of them. The game is still in early access and the developers will be making some game changing updates, so I'll try my best to keep this guide up to date when that happens. Enjoy!
Mushrooms
Mushrooms in this game have an unknown effect, but you can recognize in advance what they're going to do based on their appearance. I've made this helpful infographic to tell the mushrooms apart. (Note: the positive mana mushroom is currently bugged and it gives you full health instead of full mana.)

Shrines
When visiting an island, you may occasionally stumble upon a god shrine. You may pray to a shrine only once, but you can find the same shrine multiple times during the same run.

Shrines usually bestow a blessing, curse or balance card. Blessings are always positive, curses are always negative, and balance cards offer a "you get X... but Y happens" kind of deal.

Teleporting between islands
Just like Enter the Gungeon, if you open the map and click on the red circle present on the island, you can teleport there instantly. This can only be done while out of combat. By doing this you will save countless hours of backtracking.

These symbols on the ground represent the teleporting points.

Dropping items
This is a feature that may be overlooked; you can drop some items. By going into the pause screen and clicking on the items, you can drop them (and eventually scrap them or reroll them). This is extremely useful and you should be doing this.

The items that can be dropped are:
  • Weapons
  • Weapon mods
  • Skills
Radiation
Radiation is a feature in the game that might be confusing, as it's not explained very well. Basically it comes down to the fact that for every radiation point that you have your maximum HP is lowered by 1 and your bullets have a higher chance to spawn an irradiated puddle when they hit enemies. This puddle hurts enemies and yourself. Irradiated enemies also take more damage (around 30% more).

You can gain radiation by:
  • Swimming in the water.
  • Stepping in irradiated puddles.
  • Using items that explicitly give you radiation.
  • Touching irradiated clouds that can spawn with some items or from some entities.
  • Equipping irradiated weapons. An irradiated weapon may come with several pips of radiation that are added to your radiation points when using that weapon. In this case the radiation pips are linked to the weapon, so they disappear once unequipped.
Discount mechanics
Discounts in this game are extremely helpful (because coins and trades are). There are three things that may be overlooked regarding discounts:
  • Discounts can stack, so you can take multiple items that give you discounts to have an even higher discount.
  • With an high enough discount some items are completely free (it doesn't have to be 100%) — or at least almost free.
  • Discounts also apply to offers where you have to give your (max) health or mana, so they're not restricted to trades where you have to actually pay with coins.
Reroll everything with the reroll machines
The reroll machine that's sometimes near a relic can actually be used for every single item in the game. So when you see this machine, drop what you don't need and it will reroll everything on the current island when used.

Scrap machines
Don't ignore these scrap machines! At first glance they seem boring, letting you scrap an item for coins. And while that's true, the coins you get in return by using the machine will be way more than just scrapping the item yourself (around 20 coins).

Beating bosses without taking damage
If you beat a boss without taking a single hit (armor spirits count as taking damage) you have a chance to enter this portal that takes you to a separate item room.

In this room there's a chance that one of these will appear:
  • A relic
  • A shrine
  • 3 free consumables

Occasionally, you may need to pay by sacrificing a small amount of maximum HP.

You can change custom body parts
There are some relics that change the characters body parts (head, torso, back and lower body). If you find another body part of the same type, you can change between those in the pause menu by selecting the respective relic.

Coin rocks
There are rocks with a coin protruding on the surface. These are very similar to the "tinted rocks" from The Binding of Isaac. Break these rocks to get coins in return.

Purple crystals
These crystals that will sometimes appear (mostly in the later stages) can be destroyed by using a special weapon. You will then get coins in return.

Bloody stages and trees
Sometimes stages will appear as "bloody", where these infected trees with a red ooze on top will spawn. These can be destroyed for a chance to fight a new enemy or to drop a rainbow coin worth 2 coins. Rainbow coins also give you some HP and energy back. Also to note: rainbow chests will only appear on these stages (they make you choose between 3 items).

Double jump with the disperce jump skill (Oldun)
Oldun's jump skill (disperce) allows you to make 2 jumps before the cooldown starts. It doesn't matter when you do the second jump — in bat form or not. So basically you can do some sort of double jump if you press the button twice, and by doing so you'll reach high places.

This symbol indicates that he can make another jump.

The golden gun
While initially passing off as a low-tier sidearm, this gun has a chance to spawn coins when hitting an enemy. There are invincible enemies that allow you to effectively farm infinite coins with this weapon (see section Farming enemies).

"Catch the item" minigame
When you start this minigame by pressing the button, you may think that the location of the teleporting item is completely random — it's not. The item actually runs away from you, so you can corner it and catch it easily (because it has no place to run to).

Switching to the same weapon
There are some perks that trigger when you switch weapons. In this game you can effectively "switch" to the same exact weapon by pressing the corresponding keybind (1 → 5). For example: there is a perk that allows you to fire the weapon switched to for free. If you always "switch" to the same weapon you can fire that weapon without using any ammo (at a low fire rate because there is a cooldown).

This way you can have some crazy synergies like I had in this run:

Infinite double jump
The double jump perk is currently bugged, and you can jump infinitely by continually pressing the jump button. This can be really useful at times — to dodge enemy bullets or to reach specific places. This will obviously be patched in the future, and when this happens I will remove this section.

Farming enemies
This is a bit scummy, but there's an entity on the desert stage that can't be destroyed; it just continually spawns relatively weak enemies when hit. This gives you the opportunity to "farm" enemies if you have some items that are triggered when enemies die or are hit.

In this screenshot I have the Chest Summoner alientech that has a chance to spawn wooden chests when enemies are killed.

Infinite reroll with Scrap Plus
Scrap Plus is probably the absolute best tier I relic in the game. You get the chance to reroll items by scrapping them one time and that's already good, but there's a glitch that makes this relic completely broken. If you reroll an item you can take it and drop it to reroll it again. So you basically have infinite reroll possibilities with the Scrap Plus for items that you can drop. If you scrap the item without dropping it first, then it's gone for good. This doesn't work with relics, special weapons and consumables because you can't drop those.

Outdated
The next sections aren't relevant anymore and were added to the guide some time ago. All these features were changed or patched out.
Reroll perks
When you level up you can choose between 3 perks. If you really don't like the 3 choices, you can actually reroll them by finishing the level and using this machine inside the rescue ship. If you still don't like the new perks, you can bring your excess XP with you to the next level, and so on. You can gain multiple levels without redeeming your perks while still banking on the opportunity to do so.

Tezla and cracking metal crates
Tezla has the ability to crack open metal crates. This feature isn't really intuitive at first. When you're near a metal crate that contains something, you can interact with it and start this minigame.

Press use every time the X-shaped indicator is on top of a letter, and clear them in alphabetical order. If you fail, you don't get a second chance and only an explosive will help you then.

The super shotgun and metal crates
The super shotgun is a powerful weapon and its blast counts as an explosion even if it doesn't look like it. This means that you can destroy all metal crates with this weapon.

Chest reroll glitch
After you've played the game for a while, you'll unlock the ability to reroll chests by paying in coins. This mechanic has an interesting exploit to it.

Each time you reroll a chest, there's a couple of frames during which both the old chest and the new one exist simultaneously. So if you destroy the chest and reroll it immediately after, you will have the reward of the previous chest and created a new one. With a bit of training, it's possible to master the timing such that you can turn one chest into several, as long as you have enough coins to keep rerolling.

Even by restricting yourself to use this glitch only once per chest, you will easily double the amount of items you find at the extremely cheap cost of one coin per chest.

There are 4th level perks, and yes there is a regeneration, it exists, 2hp per second and other wonderful perks - I don't understand how to get them, but I got them randomly by collecting (mostly buying) 3d level perks and carrying them to reroll machines accurately dropping them around. Dont use familiars - they can destroy Shop room if u use shiop reroll ability... If u have enough good 3d levels there is a chance for 4th level to appear.

Last problem is 80 radiocoins achievement. I had got it on pirate version before bought steam version, but now there appears bad levels or cube dimension with doom asses (literally)

Thanks a lot for this guide!
Could you add a section for boxes? I can't open some boxes with keys. I know the purple ones can be opened with a special skill.

There is also a 'chest' reward for some islands that is blue and when you touch it, you get radiated. So I can only scrap that one for now.

@Skullman thanks for letting me know. I would've to test a bit more, but I think that you may be right. If you take just one curse it's hardly noticeable, but if you take more then there's probably a bit of delay. I'll rework the guide if you can confirm this.

Dont know for shure if Radul's "hardcoded" jump cooldown just hardcoded for only one way - so it can't be decreased, but it can be increased at the same time, or they just changed it "hardcoded" part of. Because if you pick "Cursed" class mod at the start room and get "+25% jump cooldown" curse (you will get it x3) , you will end a total off "+75% jump cooldown" in the stats. And it is really increases his jump cooldown a lot.

Appreciate the comment. Maybe I should've specified, but rerolling chests is a mechanic that has to be unlocked, so just play a bit more. Some mechanics in this game aren't available from the get go
