Things to know when switching from DS4 / DS5 analog on console to steam.

Intro
There are two main things to know when going from Playstation to PC. Timing differences & as an analog player deadzone configuration. The last minor thing to know is that you should NEVER use bluetooth while playing UNI on PC.
Timing differences
Playstation inherently has 2f of delay which is not present on PC. Hold that, and get used to the new timings.

If desired you can turn on VSync to make it more like Playstation (You will likely have to do this both in-game, AND in your Nvidia / AMD graphics control panel). Some players also practice with 1-2 frames of input delay on PC to get used to netplay and since majors will be on console which has delay.

---

Also be sure to check the refresh rate of your display by going into your GPU-specific graphics settings (AMD / Nvidia control panel). Ex: when setting to 1920x1080 via Windows on a TV display it may default to 1080i, which is 30fps. You want 60fps minimum.

Deadzone Setup
Setting up deadzones will help fix your directional inputs getting eaten. To do this, you will need to play and configure via Steam Big Picture.

  1. Connect your DS4 / DS5 controller.
  2. Launch Big Picture from top right of Steam.
  3. Within Big Picture, Press the Playstation / Menu Button, Then goto Settings.
  4. Choose Controller Settings & Enable Playstation configuration

  5. Next, set controller settings for your game. The checkbox in Playstation configuration allows for you to better customize active zones per game, which is what we're gonna do.
  6. Click on the small controller icon

  7. Goto Edit Layout.

  8. Under Joysticks click the gear for Left Joystick Behavior

  9. Calibrate as shown below (Dead Zone Inner is six ticks from the right for me). Note: Square deadzone.

  10. A square gate means that you need to be both left / right and above / below the deadzone for your input to be read as a diagonal. For example, if you set your deadzone really large you will find getting left / right for dashblocking is easier, but getting diagonal for jumping harder.

Go and try ingame. I use six ticks from left since I think that's where it is for console. Somewhere between 4-8 is likely accurate. I wouldn't go lower than 2. Going by feel, I think UNI uses a square gate when reading analog input, but perhaps steam handles that on PC.

Note: Once you've launched your game you can press the PS menu to bring up these settings again & verify that they are applied.
Thirdparty drivers
If desired, some members of the uni community have suggested using the following thirdparty drivers to better emulate DS4 input: https://github.com/jmgao/dhc/releases

I haven't tried this. DS5 support in the above is unclear. If you have to play on someone else's laptop at a local in the future, you'll probably end up using Big Picture.
DON'T USE BLUETOOTH
Those who've looked into it may want to use DS4 / DS5 over bluetooth since it has lower latency (~5ms). For example, per this analysis in Rocket League: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cv-OOn7iYio
DO NOT DO THIS. In uni on PC, bluetooth will result in inputs getting eaten. See the cursed image below of an attempted tk input on analog w/ bluetooth.

Why this happens on PC wireless but not PS is unclear. But regardless, do not use bluetooth.
