"Slaget på Reden/Battle of Copenhagen

The Battle of Copenhagen 1801 also known as the First Battle of Copenhagen.
With a southerly wind on 2 April 1801, Vice Admiral Nelson manoeuvred his force of 12 ships of the line, 5 frigates, 7 bomb vessels and 6 sloops into the outskirts of Copenhagen harbour and engaged the Danish-Norwegian Navy consisting of 9 ships of the line, 11 sloops, 17 assorted ships, rafts and floating batteries and 1 land battery.

The battle lasted about 4 and a half hour and at 2:30 pm the Danish Crown Prince Frederik VI ordered the fighting ceased on request of Vice Admiral Nelson and so the remainder of the Danish ships and batteries went silent and surrendered.

The battle was a hard-fought but resounding British victory with the Royal navy losing none of their ships with 1,200 dead and wounded, and the Royal Danish navy losing 2 ships of the line sunk, 1 ship of the line destroyed, 12 ships of the line captured and 1.600 dead and wounded.
