Introduction
So, you've been playing around with Luftrausers for a bit, and you have all of the unlocks, but you don't have a main yet. Or maybe, you just want to try out a new combination to get a higher score or make things more interesting. In this guide, I'll give you the basic strategies for a few of my favorite builds.
Billy 40 (laser, armor, hover)
Billy 40 is a good build to stack points quickly, but has slow gameplay. The basic strategy for this build is to get upward momentum using the hover engine, hold down the fire key, and adjust your aim to take down any enemies as you slowly fall. With how easy it is to aim directly at ships and fighters, you'll practically never lose a combo. On top of this, aces tend to hover in place near you, which is the perfect opportunity to rail them. To take care of battleships, just hover by them and shoot at them for long enough. Dodging their fire is easy enough, all you need to do is tap the boost key a few times. Blimps can be handled pretty easily as well, all you need to do is keep firing at the constantly, and then start circling around them while firing when they lose their altitude.

PROS: It's an efficient and reliable way to stack up points

CONS: The slow gameplay takes some getting used to if you enjoy fast builds more
Karaterauser (spread, melee, superboost)
This build is the exact opposite of 'slow and safe'. When you play this, you're focusing on speed and evasion over all else. The strategy with the Karaterauser is to get some good diagonal momentum, and then start shooting the opposite direction that youre travelling. Once you get close to the ocean, you make a quick turn and boost at another diagonal angle, and just repeat the process. Your bullets will hit offscreen enemies, and ships will be handled from either being landed on or shot at. To deal with battleships, approach with horizontal momentum to make them shoot upward, then shoot down at them at a diagonal angle to slow your acceleration, thus making the ship miss. To take care of blimps, just jet inside them and fire, but never stop jetting or the blimp will shoot you.

It sounds complex, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature.

PROS: Fast paced, fun

CONS: Not a very reliable build, score determined by luck
Hammerhead (missiles, melee, underwater)
This build is all about sinking ships to keep a combo going. If you don't like the missile, then don't worry, any weapon is usable with this build, I just found the missile to be easier to use. The strategy is to get a few kills by whatever means necessary, and then you stick near the sea. If you see a ship, you get inside of it and stay there. While you destroy the ship, fighters will start piling up, and when the ship dies, you can start killing them. Battleships can be taken care of by baiting them to shoot in the air before getting inside of them.

PROS: Complete sea superiority

CONS: Stuck to the ocean, completely left to luck, blimps harder to take down

(Should be noted that I'm not good with this build, but I know that it can be pulled off amazingly)
Widowmaker (cannon, bomb, gungine)
This build is centered entirely around keeping a combo going. The weapon is a good way to get multiple kills if you hit, but if you miss, then the bomb might get something, and if that fails, you have the gungine to back you up. There isn't much strategy to this, you just have to play around with the mechanics of this build (e.g. how fast a bomb falls, how far you need to lead cannon shots, how the gungine operates, etc.) to better understand how to utilize it.

PROS: Easy combo, good score guaranteed with longer runs

CONS: Easy to slip, requires deeper understanding of the parts
The Situation (original, bomb, superboost)
The Situation is probably my favorite of these builds. All the strategy consists of is jetting around and firing at the enemy, the bullets and bombs do the rest of the work. To take down battleships, you bait them into shooting left or right and then fire at them from above. To take care of aces, you fire at them constantly, and they'll either hit a bomb or you'll take them down. To take a blimp down, you fire at it from beneath, panning from left to right.

PROS: Fun and tight as hell controls

CONS: Bomb body not entirely utilized
Conclusion
These are just a couple of the builds I find to be most fun, how I use them, and how efficient they are. If this guide gave you any ideas for interesting combos, then give it a shot and work on it until it's perfected! If I introduced you to your new main, then congratulations on finding something fun to stick with. (:

I also like going as Laser Knight, since the laser is good for keeping combos, the standard body is flawless and the super boost makes evading easier
