Introduction
This is a follow-up guide to another guide about how to set up your game.

That guide can be found here:
https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2373580270

This is a list of mods I'd recommend to just about anybody, I'm putting this here as to not clutter up the main guide with information not needed to make New Vegas run well.

Never modify content that you've never experienced before.
Experiencing something without mods will give you a basis on which to judge the modded content, you may prefer the default, but you will never know if you haven't experienced it unmodded.
Viva New Vegas
Viva New Vegas adds a lot more than the bare minimum, if you use this instead of my guide, don't ask me for help fixing your game.

Additional Fixes
Engine Fixes
OneTweak for FNV[www.nexusmods.com]
I recommend this only if you have more than one monitor, but some have said that it's also great for alt-tabbing with one.
Some people have reported problems with this such as stuttering, but I personally have never had a problem.

FNV Mod Limit Fix[www.nexusmods.com]
By default, FoNV has a limit of of how many mods can be installed at once, most people never meet this limit, but this fix also improves framerate and load times.

No Exit to Main Menu[www.nexusmods.com]
Some problems can occur if you start a new game after exiting to the main menu from an existing save, this just removes the option to do that all together.

NPC Fixes
Spore Plant Melee Attack and Tweaks[www.nexusmods.com]
Enables the melee attack of Spore Plants and tweaks a few things about them.

ActorCause Save Bloat Fix[www.nexusmods.com]
Fixes a save bloating issue related to actors detecting the player, improving save/load speed and decreasing save size 10-30% depending on playthrough length.

Fallout Alpha Rendering Tweaks[www.nexusmods.com]

Mostly Fixed FaceGen Tints[www.nexusmods.com]

World Fixes
Meshes and Collision - Totally Enhanced Nifs[www.nexusmods.com]

New Vegas Mesh Improvement Mod[www.nexusmods.com]

skinned mesh improvement mod[www.nexusmods.com]
Improves some meshes, adds a some nice looking things.

Items Transformed[www.nexusmods.com]
Needs Meshes and Collision - Totally Enhanced Nifs

External Emittance Fix - NVSE[www.nexusmods.com]

Moonlight NVSE[www.nexusmods.com]
Makes light at night emitted from the moon instead of the underground sun.

Strip Performance[www.nexusmods.com]

LOD Performance and Fixes[www.nexusmods.com]

Gameplay Fixes
VATS Lag Fix[www.nexusmods.com]
Fixes an issue that caused the game to wait around 1-2 seconds before showing hit percentages in some cases.

Combat Lag Fix[www.nexusmods.com]
Improves framerate in combat by fixing an engine bug that lowered framerate while attacking an enemy with a health-bar visible.

Viewmodel Shake Fix[www.nexusmods.com]
Fixes an oversight with the base game that causes ironsights to shake for no reason.

Iron Sights Aligned[www.nexusmods.com]
Aligns a lot of iron sights to actually be usable, needs Viewmodel Shake Fix and a whole list of other mods before it, each mod will let you know what it requires.

Audio
Assorted Audio Fixes[www.nexusmods.com]
DLC Balancing
By default the way DLC handles things can be annoying and in your way, I heavily recommend these.
Delay DLC[www.nexusmods.com]
Instead of receiving a quest for every DLC at the start of the game, they now have triggers that you will come across naturally during your playthrough.
  • Dead Money: Limits the radio transmission range to about the middle of the Novac bridge. Introduces the requirement that you listen to the ENTIRE broadcast before you get the quest or the location.
  • Honest Hearts: Limits the radio transmission range to a radius that extends to the Durable Dunn caravan wreckage. Introduces the requirement that you listen to the ENTIRE broadcast before you get the quest or the location.
  • Old World Blues: Limits the radio transmission range to just to the south of Nipton if the player is below level 12, and just to the western side of Nipton Road Pit Stop if the player is over level 12.
  • Lonesome Road: Prevents the quest from appearing until you get very close. You must be in the playground above and to the west of the Primm NCR camp in order to get the quest, as well as be over level 25 (the suggested level).

Gun Runners' Arsenal Merged[www.nexusmods.com]
Not the tidiest of mods that do this sort of thing, but the most compatible.
Revamps the GRA weapons to be more immersive and not blatantly over powered, no more (GRA) next to a whole bunch of weapons sold by the Gun Runners.

Preorder items start in locker[www.nexusmods.com]
By default when you start a new game, you're bombarded with messages telling you that each pack has been enabled and are given a bunch of starter equipment.
This changes it so none of that happens, but the equipment is available if you want it.
Content Mods
Overhauls
Lonestar[www.nexusmods.com]
The end-all-be-all of overhaul mods, this mod has everything from balancing to additional content to changes that just make sense. If you've heard of thew JSawyer mod, this is an improved version.
This mod disables you getting all the pre-order items at the start and instead distributes them across the mojave, so if you have any other mod that stops you from getting the pre-order items at the start you can just disable that mod.
This mod has Leveled Lists, see the bottom of this guide for what to do with that.

Better Brotherhood[www.nexusmods.com]
Tons of improvements and content for the BoS.

Essential Vanilla Enhancements Merged[www.nexusmods.com]

Traps Tweaks - Traps Use Other Skills[www.nexusmods.com]
Mines use explosives, gun traps use guns, ect. Repair is no longer absolutely essential.

Weapons
Classic Fallout Weapons Remastered[www.nexusmods.com]
This is the revival of an old mod that adds in all kinds of weapons from previous games, lots of good stuff in here, the old mod was very broken and completely abandoned, it's good to see someone finally remade it.
Atmosphere Mods
First and foremost, I do not recommend installing an ENB, everything I have ever tried always looks bad in one way or another.
ENBs for New Vegas mostly look good outside, inside buildings they often look terrible, and often have problems with transparency.

Lighting
Fellout NV[www.nexusmods.com]
This removes the orange tint that you may or may not have noticed in the game.

FNV Realistic Wasteland Lighting[www.nexusmods.com]
Changes the outdoor lighting to look more realistic, including darker nights.
Make sure this is at the bottom of your load order or else some areas around New Vegas will have strange extremely bright white lighting.

A Little More Lamplight[www.nexusmods.com]
Adds additional light sources outside at night, meant to be used with darker nights.

Reflections
Real Time Reflections[www.nexusmods.com]
Player Stuff
Clothing & Armor
Old World Hues[www.nexusmods.com]
Some really nice looking sunglasses.

Titans of the New West[www.nexusmods.com]
Changes the size of power armor to look like they did in Fo1&2 and similar to Fo4, like a high tech mechanical suit and not just some fancy metal armor.
Your Pipboy will still look the same and be severely disjointed from the armor.
You need to pick one of the two options below to remedy the problem.

Pipboy
Pip-Boy 2500 - Handheld Pipboy[www.nexusmods.com]
Simple hand-held pipboy, looks especially good if you're going for that Fallout 1&2 look.

Pipboy Glove remover[www.nexusmods.com]
Removes the glove the Pipboy comes with, allowing you to use whatever glove your outfit normally comes with instead.

No PipBoy in Power Armor[www.nexusmods.com]
If you prefer still seeing the normal Pipboy or want to a different replacement but are also using Titans of the New West, this is a good automatic option.
This has it's own glove remover, will crash the game if you use it with the Glove Remover above.
Non-Player Characters
Fixes
Fixed NPC Karma Alignments[www.nexusmods.com]
Realigns a lot of NPCs karmas to make more sense.

NPC Accuracy
Simple Character Expansions[www.nexusmods.com]
Does things like making Josh look like the pictures instead of some guy wearing a bandage helmet.

More Lively Wasteland
The Living Desert[www.nexusmods.com]
Adds more NPCs around populated areas and travelers to roads.
This mod has Leveled Lists, see the bottom of this guide for what to do with that.

Mojave Raiders[www.nexusmods.com]
Overhauls raiders, more weapons, armor, and other items that they previously could not spawn with.
This mod has Leveled Lists, see the bottom of this guide for what to do with that.

Mojave Wildlife[www.nexusmods.com]
Adds a lot of new NPC spawns around the mojave, I recommend the "Fo3 Version"
This mod has Leveled Lists, see the bottom of this guide for what to do with that.

Faction Wasteland Presence Compilation[www.nexusmods.com]
Faction Wasteland Presence - Improved Edition[www.nexusmods.com]
Install these mods together, the bottom one is a fix for the top one that makes it work the way it's suppose to.
These mods have Leveled Lists, see the bottom of this guide for what to do with that.

Retextures
Classic Geckos[www.nexusmods.com]
Makes Geckos look like they did in Fo1&2

Equipment
Ranger Patrol Masks[www.nexusmods.com]
Adds more masks for patrolling NCR rangers to spawn with, very well made.
User Interface Mods
Revelation (Classic Fallout UI)[www.nexusmods.com]
Revelation UI Extras Collection[www.nexusmods.com]
Really nice UI that makes the game feel more like the classic Fallouts.
Use "Standalone mod version by Axonis - Vanilla UI Plus Revelation", it's the best version and even has some quality of life changes for the pipboy.

Radial Blur Remover[www.nexusmods.com]
Motion Sickness Destroyer[www.nexusmods.com]
Two mods that remove various blur effects that in my opinion do not look good and ruin screenshots.

Gun Follows Crosshairs in First Person[www.nexusmods.com]
Though it may be "more realistic" by default, this looks better from a gameplay standpoint.
Balance Mods
Simple Reputation and Disguises[www.nexusmods.com]
Faction outfits only act as disguises if you're an enemy of the faction, a faction you're a friend of won't shoot you if you're wearing their enemy's armor.
Also reputation penalties for crimes are reduced and Primm's reputation is fully restored.

Legionary and NCR Assassins - Balanced Lists[www.nexusmods.com]
Rebalances Legion and NCR leveled lists so that if you make a faction mad early on they don't come at you with end-game stats and equipment.
This mod has Leveled Lists, see the bottom of this guide for what to do with that.

Economy Overhaul[www.nexusmods.com]
Makes repair prices not absolutely insane and looting every NPC in the game not give you infinite riches.
Tweak Mods
NPC
Follower Tweaks[www.nexusmods.com]
Changes companion bonuses to be more useful.

Player
Skip Doc Mitchell's Exam[www.nexusmods.com]
Adds a dialogue option to Doc Mitchell's personality exam so you can skip to the next part of character creation.

Starting Gear Overhaul[www.nexusmods.com]
Gives you better starting equipment for what you've picked as your tag skills.

Character Preset Menu[www.nexusmods.com]
Lets you save and load any face you've made to share between runs, you can even share them with friends.
You can find the folder where these presets are stored in the Overwrite folder of Mod Organizer.

Essential DLC Enhancements Merged[www.nexusmods.com]
Several fixes and changes now all in one mod, see the description for more detail.

Kill Merchants Get Loot[www.nexusmods.com]
Causes every merchant's buy/sell inventory to be on their body when killed, it's technically game breaking because you can get some powerful equipment for free, but at the same time you're also down one vendor, so it's a fair trade.

World
Bad Touch NVSE[www.nexusmods.com]
Fire burns, cactus pokes, ect.
Mixed Bag mods
Throwable Weapon Fixes[www.nexusmods.com]
Various fixes and improvements for thrown items such as spears and grenades.

Unoffical Patch NVSE Plus[www.nexusmods.com]
Lot of good things in here, but it's somewhat new and so there may be bugs.
Mods with Leveled Lists
A leveled list is how loot is distributed through the game, when two mods both make changes to the same list, the latter overrides the former.
To get around this is pretty simple, you need to make a patch, I personally use FNVEdit for this.
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/34703

  • Step 1: Download FNVEdit[www.nexusmods.com] and extract the contents of zipfile to a new folder anywhere you like.

  • Step 2: Manually add FNVEdit to MO's list of executables by clicking "<Edit...>" in the drop down menu.
This allows FNVEdit to detect the mods you have installed through MO

  • Step 3: Launch FNVEdit through MO

  • Step 4: Right click one of the .esp files while in FNVEdit and go down to Other, then click "Create Merged Patch"

  • Step 5: Close FNVEdit and restart MO, then scroll down the .esp list and enable your new merged patch

  • You're done! Everything should work exactly how you want it to now.

Whenever you add a new mod that have a leveled list, you need to make a new merged patch and replace the old one.

Uncle Badass  [author] 24 Apr, 2024 @ 7:39pm
Yes
DrNoodles 24 Apr, 2024 @ 7:17pm
I added all four at once, so I just need one merged patch?
Uncle Badass  [author] 24 Apr, 2024 @ 6:43pm
Each time you add a new mod with leveled lists you need to make a new patch containing everything and you only need one active at a time.
DrNoodles 24 Apr, 2024 @ 6:39pm
I downloaded 4 mods with leveled lists. Do I have to create a merged patch for each mod?

Anyone else get the game to be slightly off of your screen. my resolution is 1920 x 1080, I followed the directions and matched em in the notes editor. I even tried different ones but i still get the same issue. I cant just move the screen either, its stuck there until I closes the app.
