Description

Welcome, Kyoudai.

The purpose of this guide is to tell you how to restore the licensed music from the Japanese version of Yakuza 5 that was unfortunately cut from all western versions of the game due to SEGA refusing to license the songs in question - "Bloody Moon" by Gospels of Judas, as well as "Still the One", "So Far So Close", "Eien ~Eternity~", "Wild Romance", "Tamashii wo Daitekure" and "Diamond Dust" by Japanese singer "Kyosuke Himuro", finally "Don Quixote Theme" of the Japanese discount chain store "Don Quijote Co., Ltd.".
Additionally, all pre-rendered videos have been replaced by the original ones from PS4 as they are higher quality than their PS3 and PC counterparts, you can find a comparison between them in the Images section of the NexusMods link below:
https://www.nexusmods.com/yakuza5remastered/mods/7/?tab=images
You will notice that the PC ones suffer from video macroblocking and artifacting issues which is why for this patch we opted to replace the videos with the PS4 ones.
Finally, one of Saejima Taiga's costumes has been uncensored to the the original Imperial Japan soldier uniform found in the original PS3 release that was unfortunately censored in PS4/PC versions due to its association with Japanese Imperialism in some regions of the world.

Those of you that might be familiar with our music restoration patches for the PS3 and PS4 Yakuza titles should be right at home with this guide, as the steps to follow will be just as simple if not simpler thanks to not needing a hacked PS3 or PS4 console to use this.
This video below will give you a glimpse of what you can expect after restoring the licensed music:

Installation

Now here come the steps on how to install the patch.

First of all, you will need to download the package from the link below which contains the patch and all its necessary files:
https://www.nexusmods.com/yakuza5remastered/mods/7/

After that, extract the contents of the archive with the patch to a folder of your own choice, it's compressed in 7z format which can be unpacked using 7zip or WinRAR, though I do recommend 7zip for best compatibility to avoid any potential issues.

Next you'll need to open the folder with the game itself, naturally make sure it's installed beforehand.
You can do so by Right Clicking it in your Steam Library and then selecting Properties -> go into the Local Files tab -> and finally press the Browse Local Files button which will open the folder with the game.

Now all you will need to do is select all the files from the restoration patch you unpacked earlier and copy them to the folder with the game, overwriting the files when asked if you want to do so - this is crucial.

The only thing left for you at this point is to simply start the game and enjoy it in all its restored glory.
You can expect similar guides for future Yakuza games once they make their way to PC in the future.

Now begin The Battle for the Dream!

Conclusion

I would also like to direct your attention to the upcoming Yakuza Kenzan fantranslation project being worked on by my friend, Slow, you can find more information about it as well as my patches for the PS3 and PS4 Yakuza titles over on his website which can you find under the link below:

I may be late on this but why didn't this also cover Haruka's revelation censorship?

Finally got it downloaded. If you're a fan of japanese music, the songs being restored really sets the tone when playing the game. Thank you for the hardwork.

I wish there's a mirror for the download. For some reason, nexusmod dl speed is 20kb/s right now....

You can't play Y5 without Himuro, it's just wrong.

I see thanks for the reply! (Sorry, I didn't receive the notification). I tested just installing the USM files, and the main menu intro's music does change, so I guess the audio comes together with the video. Cutscenes also seemed to be a bit better in part 1 chapter 4, although I still wish the devs had done a better job in updating and upscaling the pre-rendered videos.

Yes, every folder that has usm files in them. I don't remember if Y5 used separate audio files for pre-renders, but I think they didn't and it should work

Hey, I would like to use the modded pre-rendered videos, but keep the other stuff intact. Could you point out which files/folders are related to the pre-rendered videos? Is it the mvstm folder?
