Zanzarah Patch

Patch for Zanzarah

This is a quick patch for those who are experiencing flickering textures and for those who wants to play the game in a higher resolution.
Although I've included everything for your convenience, the credit still goes to those who actually created the apps and files that makes this patch possible.

Thanks Dege for creating dgvoodoo2 for the flickering fix. (http://dege.freeweb.hu/)
Thanks HxD for the hex editing tool to make the hi-res possible. (https://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/)

Known problems with these patches:
[1] Ratio imbalance:
Certain resolution, especially the widescreen version, will ended up with a fat and short Amy, but it can be fixed with the field of view setting in game, check the part below on how to fix the ratio problem.

[2] Resolution not showing up in setting, this is because the game auto filter out resolutions your machine do not support. So pick only the resolution patch that match your machine output.
- In some cases of newer Nvidia Graphic Cards you might not be able to see 4:3 or other Ratio by default because the Card auto adjust to your monitor. You can manually add those resolution to your card. https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/custom-resolutions/

[3] Skill and HP Bar not showing for those not using the 4:3 resolution. This seems to happen to all widescreen resolution so if you want the bar, you will need to use one of the 4:3 ratio. You can still change the ratio in fullscreen mode to widescreen by using the aspect ratio fix shown below.

Known Problems Not Related to the Patch:
[1] There are reports of mouse flickering problem. And we found out the game engine doesn't support dual or multi monitors and that's what caused the flickering. Just switch to single monitor and your problem should go away.

This file simply let you start the game in windowed mode. Just replace the .bat file in your main Zanzarah folder.
How to install:
[1] Choose a resolution that your PC support from the files above.

[2] After that, simply unzip the files and folder into your main Zanzarah folder.

- To locate your Zanzarah main folder, right click Zanzarah in your Steam Library and choose "Property". Then Click on the "Local files" Tab. After that, click on the "Browse" button.

[3] Start the game from steam normally.

Aspect Ratio Fix:
After you have installed everything.
When in game:

[1]Press [F11] to bring up the console

[2]Type "fov 3840,2160" (without the quotes) and press enter.

3840,2160 = the resolution you are currently using.
If you are using 1600x900 then just type in "fov 1600,900" (without the quotes)

!!Note that those using the original resolution of the game but using a widescreen ratio can still use this fix to make the game look normal.

Np. It's one of the 1st few real time 3D games back in the old days using their own game engine, it's a miracle it still works today in modern machine. So it's hard not to have hiccups trying to make it works nowadays. At the very least, it looks way better than Tomb Raider from that age, so it's a plus i guess. :winkycat:

Hmm i get some weird fish-eye lens effects when changing the FOV to 16:9 while being in 4:3 - So i just stay in original res. It is playable now the flickering is gone :D
Thanks

Yes, that should be the one. :winkycat:

Oh wait, do you mean i should do the "original res with patch" and then only change the fov with the console and not change the res in the startup prompt?

Oh wow thanks for quick response. also i see it was in number 3, guess i couldnt read xD - I cannot choose the 4:3 ratios from the dropdown, only the three 16:9's

The way to keep the UI part is to use the 4:3 ration fix then use the console code to force the ration to 16:9 or whatever ratio your monitor is using as explained above.

Great! this fixed the flickering. - Now I can relive my childhood.

However, it did remove the Spell, Health and Stamina bar from the battle.
Can I console that back to life somehow?

OKAY for everyone with the mouse flickering issue!!!! If you go into controls in game (after doing the 4:3 aspect "High Resolution" Patch and setting to 1440x1080, and in game using the F11 command to set it to 1920x1080 [my resolution can't guarantee for anyone else!]) then you max out your in game mouse speed, add mouse smoothing and max all graphics IN GAME, it stops the mouse flicker for me! Hope it helps someone!!

Yeah, mediafire's links are being censored by Steam, that's why that /- is added infront to change it into a text so others can see the link to copy it, but lately with Steam changes it showed up as a link, so some might have clicked on it, it's not meant to be clicked on in the 1st place, a direct copy without the /- should work.

Glad you finally figure it out, and enjoy the game! :winkycat:

I see where the problem is.. I cant copy the link coz its Adds stuff like
{LINK REMOVED}

Like thats broken copy paste in Steam.. and when I tryed get the link from clicking it and deleting "-/" the MF was missing ":"
http/www.mediafire.com/folder/ouljtvxgggw1k/Zanzarah

I know this comment is out of context but few ppl might stubble on this problem.. not sure why web browser deletes the ":" after "//" not sure why I even pasted your link wrong seems copy paste issiue to.

Anyways sended the most expensive reward there was, thank you for help and sorry for problem :)

PS: so it seems like steam deletes the second "/" after http.. even more confusing.. link deleted well the URL was like $%^&* http://#$%^&*Media$%^&*( etc so copy paste URL from steam is bad.
